Position: President (Volunteer)

The Ipswich Art Association (IAA) is seeking a dynamic and community-minded leader to serve as its next President . This volunteer role combines the vision and leadership of a Board President with the hands-on responsibilities of an Executive Director . The President will help guide the Association through its next stage of growth, building on three years of success in connecting Ipswich’s vibrant arts community with residents and visitors.

About the Ipswich Art Association

Founded in 2021, the IAA is dedicated to celebrating and supporting the creative spirit of Ipswich, a community rich in both history and the arts. The Association produces two major shows annually, curates exhibitions at the Ipswich Town Hall and the Public Library, and fosters opportunities for artists to share their work and engage with the public.

Responsibilities

The President will:

• Lead and Manage the Board : Partner with the seven-member Board of Directors to set organizational priorities, facilitate meetings, and ensure strong governance.

• Oversee Events & Programs : Coordinate the Association’s two major annual shows and oversee exhibitions at Town Hall and the Library.

• Engage the Community : Serve as the public face of the IAA, deepening relationships with artists, members, donors, and local partners.

• Fundraising & Development : Cultivate support through donor relations, sponsorships, and membership growth.

• Operational Leadership : Manage the day-to-day needs of the organization, ensuring smooth communication, budgeting, and execution of activities.

• Strategic Growth : Identify opportunities to expand programming, membership, and community impact.

Time Commitment

This is a volunteer position with flexible hours, though some evening and weekend availability will be required for events and programs.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

• Strong organizational and leadership skills, with experience in community organizing, nonprofit management, or related fields.

• Proven ability to manage events, programs, or projects.

• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

• Familiarity with Ipswich and its arts community preferred.

• Fundraising or donor relations experience a plus.

• A passion for the arts and community engagement.

? The Ipswich Art Association is a newly formed 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the arts in Ipswich. Our purpose is to support, empower and advocate for all creative and performing arts and artists in Ipswich in order to: IGNITE an interest in, enhance community access to, and encourage engagement with the arts. CREATE art, ideas, and resources to live a more creative life. SUPPORT and intensify the artistic aspirations of association members by funding and producing local opportunities for educational and professional development, which might include mentorships, lectures, workshops, exhibitions, scholarships and residencies. BUILD a platform to display and promote the visual and performing artwork of association members. PROMOTE and celebrate the artistic diversity of Ipswich, Essex County and contiguous counties through accessibility, collaboration, innovation, and inclusion. WORK in partnership with our town arts institutions, funding agencies, neighbors, businesses and others to achieve a common goal of a vibrant, healthy creative economy that enhances community life in Ipswich.
