  • Facilitates theme-based clinical discussions (e.g., serious illness communication, death and dying, grief and bereavement, family systems, substance use, sexual health, and other complex psychosocial topics) that deepen clinical insight and skill.
  • Creates and maintains a supervision environment that promotes openness and non-judgmental dialogue and encourages reflection, learning, and the integration of diverse perspectives and experiences.
  • Collaborates with Social Work leadership to design, refine, and implement supervision structures and clinical curricula that align with departmental and institutional goals, regulatory requirements, and best practices in oncology social work.
  • Identifies themes and learning needs emerging from supervision groups and communicates them to leadership to inform training priorities, quality improvement efforts, and program development.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation of supervision activities in accordance with departmental policies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Advanced clinical social work knowledge in serious illness, end-of-life care, grief and bereavement, and family systems.

  • Ability to explore clinical applications of theoretical models within social work practice in a healthcare setting.
  • Ability to lead clinical discussions with openness, curiosity, using a non-judgmental perspective, and to model reflective practice and ethical decision-making.
  • Strong ability to manage complex group dynamics, including balancing multiple voices, navigating conflict, and maintaining focus on clinical learning and patient-centered care.
  • Demonstrated capacity to support the professional growth and development of clinicians at varying levels of experience.
  • Knowledge of integrated behavioral health models and the intersection of mental health and complex/advanced disease, preferably in oncology or serious illness care.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with social work staff and social work leaders.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practice, with demonstrated experience working in multicultural and multi-ethnic environments.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to plan supervision schedules, track participation, and contribute to program evaluation and quality improvement activities.

  • Demonstrated experience providing group clinical supervision and/or leading structured clinical case discussions.
  • Experience working with patients and families facing serious illness, end-of-life issues, grief, and complex psychosocial needs.
  • Experience working in and demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity efforts and a knowledge base of the needs and concerns of underserved and marginalized populations.
