POSITION TITLE: Special Programs Coordinator - TRIO Student Support Services (Part-Time)

DEPARTMENT: SSEM -TRIO Programs

PRIMARY LOCATION: Fall River, MA

REPORTS TO: Director, Alumni & Foundation Relations

POSITION STATUS: This is an MCCC/MTA, part-time, grant-funded, unit position with benefits. This position is subject to grant budget appropriations. The Grant is currently funded through 8/31/2026.

SALARY: $36.55/hr

STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Special Programs Coordinator, TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) ensures that TRIO SSS meets its federal objectives and operates efficiently through effective planning, budgeting, compliance, and data management. Working collaboratively across the college and with community partners, the Special Program Coordinator develops and implements programming that promotes student engagement, persistence, and success including workshops, college visits, cultural events, and individualized support. By fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment, the Coordinator helps students navigate the college experience, graduate from Bristol, and transfer successfully to four-year institutions.

TRIO SSS is a federally funded grant, which supports first generation, low-income students, and/or students with disabilities and helps them navigate the complexities of college life both in and out of the classroom. The program strives to help students graduate from college and successfully transfer and complete a Bachelor's degree.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program to ensure alignment with institutional priorities and federal regulations.
  • Represent the TRIO SSS program at college and community events to promote visibility, collaboration, and understanding of the program's mission and goals.
  • Manage all aspects of program administration, including budgeting, purchasing, data collection, and compliance reporting.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate academic and personal development activities such as workshops, campus visits, cultural events, and enrichment events that foster student engagement and success.
  • Lead student recruitment and onboarding, including outreach, intake, eligibility determination, and program orientation for new participants.
  • Provide individualized academic and career support to participants, connecting them to tutoring, mentoring, and financial literacy resources as appropriate.
  • Monitor student progress toward academic and personal goals, implementing intervention strategies to promote persistence and degree completion.
  • Collaborate with faculty, advisors, and campus offices to ensure coordinated support for TRIO SSS participants.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations and four-year institutions to strengthen program outcomes and compliance.
  • Ensure that student and program data are accurately recorded and maintained in Blumen and other institutional systems for reporting and evaluation.
  • Prepare required reports and federal documentation demonstrating progress toward grant objectives and student outcomes.
  • Track and reconcile program expenditures to ensure proper use of grant funds and adherence to federal and institutional fiscal policies.
  • Maintain current knowledge of TRIO regulations, higher education trends, and student success best practices through professional development and training.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all required qualifications must be met by date of hire.

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Business Administration, Human Services or related field;
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience in education, advising, human services, business administration and/or case management, preferably with college students which may include college registration, academic advisement, career development, career experience, training, audio/visual or graphic production, grant administration, program/project management, event planning, administrative work in an academic environment, or personal computer operations;
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience shall be considered;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work with data in a student information system;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; and
  • Experience with Microsoft 0365 suite, telecommunications tools, and online platforms

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional experience working with Banner Student Information Systems, DegreeWorks, EAB Navigate 360, and Maxient.
  • Demonstrated experience working in higher education, with a preference for experience working at a community college.
  • Ability to communicate in a language in addition to English, with a preference for American Sign Language (ASL), Spanish, or Portuguese.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight.

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
