Position Summary: The Lunder Special Assistant to the Director is a year-long, post-baccalaureate position that provides recent college graduates with a unique, in-depth view of the leadership and administration of a major international arts institution - one of the few institutions in the United States that combines a public art museum with research and academic programs. Reporting to the Assistant to the Director (with dotted line reporting to the Director), the Lunder Special Assistant (LSA) is a front-facing, integral member of the Director's Office. The LSA will work closely with the Director and the Assistant to the Director, performing a variety of high-impact administrative and clerical tasks in support of the Director's Office. The LSA position provides excellent mentorship opportunities for curious, aspiring museum professionals seeking exposure to various aspects of the Institute's leadership, management, departments and functions. This position is fully benefits-eligible, and includes a $600/month housing stipend, as well as funding for professional development-related travel. Current seniors (anticipating graduation in May 2024) and recent graduates of colleges and universities in Maine, in addition to Maine residents who will graduate from out-of-state institutions, are invited to apply. The deadline to apply is March 15, 2024. The position begins at the end of June 2024. Starting Hourly Rate: : $19.00 Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions) :
  • Draft initial copy for the Director for museum publications, annual reports, board reports, letters of recommendations, and trustee communications.
  • Support activities related to Clark events such as exhibitions-related events, openings, and public engagements, including the Clark Prize, which celebrates exceptional writing in the visual arts.
  • Prepare materials (talking points, slideshows, etc.) for the Director's lectures, speaking engagements, and courses in the Clark/Williams Graduate Program in the History of Art.
  • Complete administrative tasks in support of the Director's Office as necessary, such as record making, note-taking, compiling and analyzing data, scheduling, coordinating, and driving meetings. These tasks may be subject to change based on the needs of the office.
  • Work with the Assistant to the Director on various tasks, including the screening, hiring, and managing of interns in the Director's Office.
  • Assist with special research projects as needed by the Director's Office.
  • Act as liaison between the Director's Office and other integral departments such as Advancement, Curatorial, the Research and Academic Program, and the Clark/Williams Graduate Program in the History of Art.
  • Utilize customer service skills at a front-facing position by greeting Clark staff and VIP guests.
  • Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor as the face of the Director's Office.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications : Education, Training, and Skills :
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency skills.
  • Solid customer service skills.
Work Experience :
  • Undergraduate experience in the arts preferred.

  • Pace of work: There are periods where you will be expected to work remotely and/or overtime to perform needed assignments and to meet certain deadlines.
