Juvenile Justice Coordinator
A Juvenile Justice Coordinator works under the supervision of the Director of Juvenile Justice and is responsible for all juvenile justice initiatives, including Juvenile Diversion and Youthful Diversion. In addition, Coordinators are responsible for organizing and facilitating the Community Collaborative Initiative meetings in compliance with Massachusetts General Law Chapter 12, Section 32, and representing the office at various inter-agency and community meetings.
The Juvenile Justice Coordinator shall:
- Screen and review all cases in the district and juvenile courts for eligibility for Diversion.
- Identify cases for appropriate placement in the Juvenile/Youthful Diversion Program by speaking with police and the Assistant District Attorney.
- Coordinate and facilitate monthly Community Collaborative Initiative meetings with local schools, police, probation and state agencies as mandated by MGL Chapter 12, Section 32 to identify resources for high risk youth and to monitor serious cases to keep schools and communities safe.
- Work with Assistant District Attorneys to identify cases for priority prosecution and meet with Assistant District Attorneys on a regular basis to assist in managing, updating and tracking priority prosecution.
- Responsible for all case management for youth and families in the Juvenile/Youthful Diversion Program.
- Coordinate and monitor appropriate services including counseling and community service for all youth.
- Determine appropriate restitution. Responsible for collecting and monitoring restitution.
- Attend and participate in Juvenile Court proceedings including Juvenile Sessions and Clerks Hearings
- Actively participate in community groups and task forces dedicated to creating and implementing prevention initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with police, court staff, and community agencies to ensure effective procedures and communication regarding juvenile cases.
- Work on specialized initiatives including the fire-setter initiative.
- Serve as a resource for communities and schools for all juvenile justice initiatives.
Also, the Juvenile Justice Coordinator performs whatever other duties at whatever job-site as may from time to time be assigned to her/him by the District Attorney, the Juvenile Justice Director, or other designee of the District Attorney.
In addition to these above responsibilities the Juvenile Justice Coordinator is required:
- To be familiar with and to follow the provisions of the Essex District Attorneys Office Personnel Policies, and the Sexual Harassment Protocol,
- To participate in trainings relevant to Office functions,
- To communicate with or provide timely notification to Office staff, police, and other interested parties, as permitted and/or required by law;
- To interact in a respectful and professional manner with the public, judicial and law enforcement personnel and Office staff
- To complete work assignments in a timely manner.
The essential functions of the position require the effective ability to receive and distribute information in written, oral, and electronic form, in the English language.
Education and Experience:
Required:
- Bachelors degree.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organization skills.
- Ability to assist other units in the office.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong computer skills; Must be proficient with the Microsoft Suite.
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Preferred:
- Conversational abilities in Spanish and other languages.
- Working knowledge of the criminal justice and/or social service systems
- Experience working in a professional office setting.

This position could be in any of the following locations: Salem, Peabody, Lynn, Newburyport, Gloucester, Haverhill or Lawrence
Annual Salary: $43,500
All full-time positions offer a State benefit package that includes health, life, disability, and dental/vision insurances, retirement plans, vacation, personal and sick leave and more. Payroll is paid bi-weekly and based on a 37.5-hour work week (normally 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). All job offers are contingent upon successful completion of background check.
