POSITION SUMMARY :

The Manager of Training, Standards & Compliance provides strategic leadership and oversight for the Boston Medical Center Health System Public Safety Department's training, professional standards, regulatory compliance, accreditation readiness, and continuous quality improvement programs. Reporting to the Director of Public Safety, this position is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating department-wide training, competency, policy, and performance improvement initiatives that support a highly skilled, professional, and service-oriented public safety workforce.

The Manager ensures departmental compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards while fostering a culture of accountability, operational excellence, and continuous improvement. Working collaboratively with Public Safety leadership, clinical and administrative departments, Human Resources, Risk Management, Emergency Preparedness, and other system partners, this position leads initiatives that enhance workplace violence prevention, emergency preparedness, employee development, and organizational readiness across the health system.

The Manager directly supervises the Public Safety & Workplace Violence Prevention Training Specialist and provides leadership and functional oversight to departmental instructors, Field Training Officers, and subject matter experts. The position also supports recruitment, onboarding, employee development, and succession planning to ensure the department maintains a highly qualified, mission-driven workforce.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Lead the department's training, competency, and professional development programs by developing, implementing, and evaluating annual training strategies; ensuring completion and documentation of required initial, annual, and specialty training; and overseeing curriculum development, instructional standards, and competency assessments.

  • Direct the health system's Workplace Violence Prevention training program by collaborating with clinical, operational, Human Resources, Risk Management, and Emergency Preparedness leaders to support system-wide initiatives and ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

  • Manage the department's professional standards, policy, and regulatory compliance programs by leading the development and maintenance of departmental policies and procedures; monitoring compliance with accreditation, licensing, and regulatory requirements; and maintaining documentation supporting inspections, audits, and accreditation surveys.

  • Lead quality improvement and professional standards initiatives by supporting administrative investigations, analyzing operational trends and quality assurance findings, identifying opportunities for improvement, and recommending corrective action, remedial training, or employee recognition, as appropriate.

  • Provide leadership and supervision for the department's training function, including direct supervision of the Public Safety & Workplace Violence Prevention Training Specialist and functional oversight of department instructors, Field Training Officers (FTOs), and subject matter experts. Establish goals, monitor performance, coach and develop staff, and foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, customer service, and continuous learning.

  • Coordinate Public Safety emergency preparedness training and operational readiness by partnering with the Office of Emergency Preparedness to support drills, exercises, after-action reviews, external responder coordination, and department-wide emergency response capabilities.

  • Support departmental workforce development and organizational initiatives by assisting with the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and development of Public Safety personnel and performing other duties and special projects as assigned by the Director of Public Safety.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Public Safety.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • BA or BS in Criminal Justice or related field of study, preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED :

  • Valid motor vehicle driver's license.

  • Instructor certification in healthcare safety or public safety disciplines, or the ability to obtain certification.

  • Specialized instructor certifications in defensive tactics, de-escalation, workplace violence prevention, emergency management, or related disciplines preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 - 5 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare security, public safety, law enforcement, emergency management, or a related field.

  • Experience managing training, professional standards, regulatory compliance, or quality improvement programs.

  • Experience supervising staff and leading organizational initiatives.

  • Experience developing policies, training curricula, competency programs, and operational procedures preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.

  • Working knowledge of healthcare security operations, workplace violence prevention, accreditation standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Ability to analyze operational data and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Ability to coach employees, promote accountability, and build high-performing teams.

  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills with clinical, operational, and administrative leaders.

Compensation Range:

$78,000.00- $113,000.00

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
