Overview
Lead Scientist works on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Works on significant and unique issues that may impact future concepts, products or technologies on a broader scope than just one unit. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Exercises latitude in determining objectives and approaches to critical assignments. Works closely with directors on unit/lab issues. Manages the work efforts of more than one individual, mentors staff, and completes performance appraisals. Contributes broad knowledge of the field, strong leadership skills, technical proficiency, and scientific creativity. OVERVIEW:The Scientific Director of the Center for RAS Therapeutics at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute will coordinate basic, translational and clinical research projects across teams and divisions at the Institute as well as facilitate collaborations with other national and international centers. The Scientific Director will interface with multiple laboratory and clinical research teams in order to support and guide collaborative research, help educate and mentor trainees, and ensure effective sharing of data, tissue-based resources, research strategies and administrative elements of this unique multi-disciplinary research team.
The Scientific Director will work closely with the RAS Center Co-Directors, Drs. Alice Shaw and Andrew Aguirre to establish the strategic and scientific priorities of the center. The Scientific Director will work closely with all members of the RAS center, as well as other faculty within our clinical and research divisions to ensure the basic, translational, and clinical science projects are optimally coordinated and executed across the spectrum from basic discovery to applied clinical trials and tissue/data-based research projects. The Scientific Director will also supervise the interface and functions with all other required administrative support services, including the Belfer Office for Dana-Farber Innovations as well as the technology transfer and fiscal departments at collaborating centers worldwide. The Scientific Director will help manage the RAS-related scientific interface with the DFCI Philanthropy Department relevant to this funded research initiative, oversee the fiscal reporting relevant to all research operations through the DFCI Grants and Contracts office, and present RAS funded research on behalf of the Center. The Scientific Director will also proactively seek to identify, recruit, and guide new research opportunities as well as new potential collaborations. By coordinating and leveraging expertise from across the Institute, the Scientific Director will play a critical role in accelerating the Center’s discovery and development of transformative therapies for RAS-derived cancers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Excellent knowledge of the field with strong leadership skills. Resolves critical issues and contributes to unit/lab development
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- PhD in a scientific discipline or MD preferred and a
- minimum of 12+ years related experience.
- Works on significant and unique issues that may impact future concepts, products or technologies on a broader scope than just one unit.
- Exercises latitude in determining objectives and approaches to critical assignments.
- 5+ years management responsibility preferred
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages the work efforts of more than one individual and mentors staff.
- Completes performance appraisals.
