Nurse Practitioner, Flex coverage CICU, ACCU, CPU
Position Summary
The Heart Center at Boston Children’s Hospital is a world leader in pediatric cardiovascular care, recognized for pioneering treatments that have transformed outcomes for patients with congenital and acquired heart disease. We are seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Nurse Practitioner (NP) for a flex role supporting patients across the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), Acute Cardiac Care Unit (ACCU), and Cardiac Procedural Unit. This unique role offers flexible and adaptable coverage for pediatric and adult patients throughout the Heart Center—from post-cath recovery to acute inpatient management and intensive care. The NP will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary Heart Center team to provide high-quality, family- centered care to patients with complex congenital and acquired cardiac conditions.
Cardiac Procedural Unit (CPU)
- Provide post-procedural care for pediatric and adult patients undergoing:
- Diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterizations
- Electrophysiology procedures
- Cardiac surgery and other procedures requiring anesthesia
- Function in the post procedure patient management, observation and discharge
- Manage pre- and post-operative critically ill cardiac patients in the CICU
- Participate in medical rounds, assessments, care planning, and ongoing management of acute cardiac patients
- Manage:
- Ventilators
- Inotropic support
- ECMO
- CRRT/CVVH
- Sedation titration
- Perform advanced procedures such as intubation and central line placement (training provided)
- Provide inpatient care for pediatric and adult patients with:
- Congenital heart disease
- Arrhythmias
- Heart failure
- Pre- and post-heart transplant needs
- Manage cardiology patients admitted for non-cardiac medical issues
- Provide inpatient care for patients following cardiac surgery
- Coordinate care for acute and chronic medical conditions
- Facilitate complex discharge planning and transitions of care
- Collaborate with consulting services and the multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes
- Work collaboratively in a family-centered care environment
- Educate and support patients, families, and staff
- Participate in quality improvement, research, and clinical program development
- Contribute to a supportive learning environment through collaboration with physicians, fellows, nurses, and trainees
- Full-time, 36 hours/week with potential for 40 hours/week
- Up to 50% day/night rotation
- Every 3rd weekend
- Some holidays, including major holidays
Education
- Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited program
- 1+ year of NP experience preferred
- New graduate NPs considered with 2+ years of inpatient RN experience, preferably in:
- Pediatrics
- Cardiac care
- ICU
- ED
- Current Massachusetts NP license
- PNP or FNP certification for Nurse Practitioners
This role offers a competitive sign-on bonus ranging from: $5,000 to $20,000, based on your experience.

Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
