Position Overview
The Fleet Maintenance Technician is an essential member of GAAMHA’s operations team, ensuring that agency vehicles and equipment are safe, reliable, and ready to support the individuals and programs we serve. This role contributes directly to the continuity and quality of care by maintaining dependable transportation resources across the organization.
In addition to fleet responsibilities, this position supports Facilities operations, including general maintenance, seasonal snow removal, and, when needed, transportation of individuals receiving services in collaboration with the Transit Department.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain GAAMHA vehicles and equipment in safe, reliable operating condition to support uninterrupted program services.
- Develop and manage a proactive, preventative maintenance schedule for all fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Perform diagnostics, repairs, and routine maintenance (including brakes, oil changes, tires, electrical systems, and wheelchair lifts).
- Maintain accurate, timely service records using internal systems and standard software.
- Conduct monthly safety inspections to ensure all required emergency and safety equipment is present and functional.
- Review driver-submitted vehicle checklists and address maintenance needs promptly.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local vehicle safety regulations.
- Communicate urgent and anticipated maintenance needs to the Director of Operations in a timely manner.
- Provide regular (weekly) updates summarizing fleet maintenance activities.
- Maintain appropriate inventory of tools, parts, and supplies.
- Collaborate with the Transit Department to ensure vehicle availability and minimize disruptions to services.
- Support facility maintenance needs as assigned.
- Participate in seasonal and weather-related operations, including snow removal (plowing and sanding).
- Safely transport individuals receiving services when needed, following all traffic laws and GAAMHA transportation policies.
- Uphold all safety protocols and promptly report hazards, incidents, or concerns.
- Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions, in accordance with HIPAA and GAAMHA standards.
- Maintain flexibility to support operational needs, including occasional weekends and on-call responsibilities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission and operations of the agency.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on experience in motor vehicle maintenance and repair.
- Valid Massachusetts driver’s license required.
- Ability to obtain a Hackney license.
- Must successfully complete pre-employment screening, including drug test, CORI, and fingerprinting.
- Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card preferred.
- Must have own tools required for vehicle maintenance.
- Basic computer proficiency, including ability to maintain digital records (spreadsheets, databases, internal systems).
- Experience with fleet maintenance software preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in a garage/shop environment.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to safely operate vehicles and maintenance equipment.
