Principal Software Engineer, Full Stack
About Us
At Matterworks we are building AI tools to extract insights from the ever-growing corpora of biological data and to unlock opportunities in therapeutic discovery, development, and manufacturing. We are building large-scale deep learning models of biological data to predict the phenotype and behavior of biological systems.
Role Description
Matterworks is seeking a Principal Software Engineer with full stack experience creating innovative scientific products. You will join an interdisciplinary team, collaborating directly with our scientists, machine learning researchers, fellow software engineers, and product team members.

- Strong web development expertise with an emphasis on scientific analysis.
- Manage the entire development process from user problem to value delivery.
- Collaborate with scientific cross-functional team members to develop transformative products.
- Incorporate feedback from internal and external stakeholders to continuously improve our software.
- Address technical challenges and drive pragmatic problem-solving efforts in an early stage environment.
- Contribute to overall technical direction and software architecture.
- Motivated to develop others and build a high performing team
- 8+ years of professional full stack experience developing web applications.
- Industry experience in life sciences, biotechnology, biochemistry, or a related field.
- High quality software craftsmanship orientation, with a rigorous approach to software design
- Proficiency in agile development, with a demonstrated ability to deliver value iteratively.
- Strong attention to detail with a keen ability to balance priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to solve complex problems.
- A passion for contributing to an early-stage startup where autonomy, eagerness to learn, and enthusiasm for solving novel scientific challenges prevail over rigid processes and egos.
