Eligibility Requirements:
Currently Appointed and Tenured New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) Special Education Teacher or Tenured NYCPS Teacher of Speech Improvement
- Experience providing differentiated instruction to preschool and early childhood populations
- Experience with implementing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in classrooms and school communities
- Experience supporting non-speaking students in the school environment.
- Ability to assess, implement, and evaluate Assistive Technology (AT) solutions in educational settings.
- Demonstrate experience with a range of AT tools, systems and programs, including AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) systems
- Strong interpersonal skills for working with educators, therapists, families, and students.
- Experience in coaching or providing professional development to school staff.
- Knowledge of the pre-school continuum of services, NYCPS special education continuum of services, regulations of the NYSED Commissioner, regulations of the NYCPS Chancellor
- Knowledge of due process rights

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Conduct assistive technology evaluations for preschool-aged and school-aged children.
- Provide consultation on assistive technology services, including evaluations, training, implementation support, equipment loans, curriculum adaptation, and professional development.
- Facilitate professional learning opportunities focused on assistive technology, AAC, communication tools, and UDL to support diverse communication needs of early childhood students.
- Provide professional learning opportunities to build capacity of PRAC team staff and other related stakeholders to effectively consider and identify assistive technology resources that support the developmental and educational needs of early childhood students.
- Travel to various locations, including schools, homes, NYCPS Offices, and agencies, to attend meetings and perform evaluations.
- Administer both formal and informal assessments at CPSE/CSE schools, as well as at non-public, parochial, charter, and public schools, children’s homes, and related agencies. Prepare comprehensive written reports.
- Develop and contribute to the creation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Participate in CPSE/CSE/IEP reviews at various educational and community-based settings.
- Coordinate AT/AAC related activities with NYCPS offices, non-public, parochial, charter, and public schools, pre-schools, as well as external agencies.
Serve as a resource around assistive technology/AAC/UDL for CPSE/CSE/school-based teams, school staff, families, and partner organizations.
Represent NYCPS in Due Process Hearings as needed.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Central Assistive Technology Team Directors.
