SUMMARY:
The Municipal Fire Department seeks a highly skilled Master Electrician with specialized experience in traffic signal systems and municipal fire alarm networks . The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, inspection, and modernization of electrical and low-voltage systems critical to public safety and emergency operations. This position ensures reliable functioning of intersection control devices, fire alarm circuits, street boxes, communication pathways, and related infrastructure.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Municipal Fire Alarm System Maintenance
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair municipal fire alarm circuits, street fire alarm boxes, radio fire alarm boxes, and supervisory systems.
- Inspect and service fire alarm wiring, underground conduit systems, terminal cabinets, pull stations, and alarm transmission equipment.
- Ensure system integrity and reliability to support timely dispatch and emergency communications.
- Conduct periodic testing and performance verification of municipal fire alarm network components. Knowledge of Gamewell Master Boxes, and M/K Form 4 Panels, RO-4 Digital readouts, Mini T-2 Transmitters, and button Panels.
- Respond to system failures, false alarms, and emergency outages while maintaining safety and compliance with NFPA standards.
- Collaborate with fire department dispatch, communications specialists, and third-party vendors.
- Knowledge of Bi-Directional Amplifiers (BDA) systems requirements.
Traffic Signal System Maintenance
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair traffic signal control equipment, including controllers, cabinets, signal heads, pedestrian systems, vehicle detection devices, conflict monitors, and wiring.
- Perform preventive maintenance on signalized intersections according to municipal standards.
- Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and communication failures in signal systems; implement corrective action swiftly to ensure safe traffic operations.
- Assist with intersection upgrades, timing adjustments, loop or radar detection installation, and emergency preemption systems.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, signal inventories, and intersection performance.
- Coordinate with public works, engineering departments, and outside contractors as required
General Electrical Duties
- Maintain compliance with national, state, and local electrical codes and safety regulations.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Prepare work reports, maintenance logs, and documentation for regulatory or operational review.
- Participate in emergency repairs outside regular working hours.
- Provide technical guidance to junior staff or apprentices as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master Electrician License (state-recognized).
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in electrical systems maintenance, including work with traffic signal systems and municipal or institutional fire alarm networks.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting both high-voltage and low-voltage control circuits.
- Demonstrated experience with traffic controllers, conflict monitors, vehicle detection, and emergency preemption equipment.
- Experience working with municipal fire alarm systems such as telegraph circuits, street boxes, radio boxes, or fiber-based alarm transmission systems.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL may be required depending on department equipment.
- Bucket truck (VMERADs), Vehicle Mounted Elevating and Rotating Aerial Device Certification
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- IMSA Traffic Signal Technician certification (Level II or III preferred).
- NICET Fire Alarm Systems certification (Level II or higher).
- Experience with SCADA, fiber optics, or municipal communication networks.
- Familiarity with NFPA, MUTCD, and state transportation standards.
