Mechanic II
Responsibilities : Performs semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and repair tasks on buildings, apartments, grounds, and equipment. Mandatory snow removal and other on-call duties.
Essential Functions: Performs maintenance and repair tasks to hot water, heating and boiler systems such as draining tanks, cleaning burners, lubrications, etc.; Performs plumbing tasks such as changing washers, stems etc. repairing toilets by changing ball cock, overflow tubes, etc., unclog drains, etc.; Performs electrical tasks such as changing plate covers on switches and outlets, replacing fluorescent lights and ballasts; Performs pest control tasks under the direction of a licensed exterminator; Performs floor tile installations; Prepares vacant apartments for rental; Performs building repairs such as patching holes in walls, ceilings, doors, etc.; Assist mechanics in major repairs or new construction; Maintains and makes repairs to electrical equipment and appliances, burners, refrigerators, ranges, etc.; Performs other job-related duties as required.
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to use tools and perform work of a skilled nature. Basic knowledge of heating, plumbing, electricity, and carpentry. Skilled in the use of hand and power tools used for building and grounds maintenance. Ability to use and operate snow removal equipment. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to deal effectively with other co-workers and tenants. Ability to prepare work orders and time sheets. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures. Ability to work in hazardous and adverse conditions such as infested places, snow, rain, heat, cold, cramped quarters and high places. Ability to bend, squat, stoop, kneel, push/pull/lift heavy objects up to 40 pounds, walk/stand for up to 8 hours, climb ladders and steps. Valid driver’s license is required.
