As a Full Stack Software Engineer, you will be responsible for developing, launching and maintaining custom software tools to support everything from lab-scale R&D through to commercial systems. Working within a cross-disciplinary team, you will have the opportunity to own projects from conception through to deployment in support of Via's manufacturing, testing and operational needs.

As the sole software engineer within the organization, this role presents a unique opportunity to not only develop software tools but also to shape our digital strategy. This role has enormous potential for growth as the organization grows and headcount increases.

Responsibilities Include
  • Design, develop, launch and maintain software applications
  • Maintain existing software by responding to & addressing bug reports, soliciting user feedback, and upgrading infrastructure as necessary.
  • Perform thorough, automated unit testing and debugging to identify and fix issues in the codebase.
  • Manage projects from concept to deployment and delivery of high-quality software solutions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for all applications, including code comments and user guides.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers from across the organization to understand needs and translate into tactical project requirements .
  • Work with datasets at a range of different scales and across multiple storage solutions.

The ideal candidate will have some, if not all, of these qualifications:
  • Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience
  • 3-5 years professional experience designing, building and shipping complex software products that include front-end and back-end elements for industrial manufacturing/hardware applications
  • Proficiency in JavaScript or TypeScript and SQL is required
  • Experience with front-end frameworks such as React.js , Bootstrap, Redux
  • Knowledge of back-end technologies including Relational & Non-relational Databases, Node.js , cloud services (AWS)
  • Experience creating tools and frameworks to automate testing
  • Ability to generate automated reports and dashboards from a variety of data sources
  • Strong project management skills. Ability to define timelines and deliver on them from project start to completion
  • Experience successfully delivering on complex projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience with unstructured, highly variable R&D datasets
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills. Eager to solicit and implement feedback from users.
  • Ability to work from our Watertown, MA office at least 3 days/week
  • Some travel (up to 5%) may be required
  • U.S. work authorization is required for this role
