Instructor technology and development

The School of Sciences & Humanities at Wentworth Institute of Technology invites applications for a part-time instructor to teach ECON 4200 – Technology and Economic Development in Spring 2026.
This 4-credit, in-person course meets Mondays and Wednesdays, 1:00–2:45 p.m. on Wentworth’s Boston campus.
Course Description:
This course examines the relationship between technological innovation and economic development in both historical and contemporary contexts. Students analyze how advances in energy, health, agriculture, infrastructure, and communication technologies have shaped economic opportunity and human well-being around the world. Case studies highlight the ways technology can expand access to resources, improve equity, and foster sustainable development, while also considering social, environmental, and ethical trade-offs.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Economics, Anthropology, Development Studies, Technology & Society, International Studies or a closely related social-science field (PhD or ABD preferred).
At least one year of college-level teaching or professional training in economics, development, or technology policy.
Professional or Research Experience:
Demonstrated experience in applied or international development, innovation economics, or the analysis of technology’s social and economic impacts.
Familiarity with global development data sources (e.g., World Bank, UNDP, OECD) and ability to translate empirical findings into accessible, evidence-based discussions.
Experience working with interdisciplinary teams or community partners on technology-driven development initiatives is desirable.
Preferred Competencies:
Ability to teach economic concepts through real-world applications, connecting theory to engineering, design, and social innovation.
Commitment to balanced, non-partisan instruction that equips students to evaluate policy and development strategies using data and critical reasoning rather than ideology.
Strong communication skills and an inclusive, discussion-oriented teaching style suited to interdisciplinary majors.
Please submit CV and contact information.
Adjunct faculty compensation varies based on instructional mode (lecture or lab), number of course credits, and program. The minimum adjunct rate is $1,365 per credit.
