Class I Technician

SUMMARY OFPOSITION: Franklin Transit Management is looking for an experienced fleet technician to join its team! Technician’s primary responsibilities are to perform maintenance, conduct inspections, and ensure safe, reliable, and efficient use of FRTA vehicles and facilities. The Technician will perform said tasks in accordance with FTM and FRTA policies and procedures as well as local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain a Massachusetts Commercial Driver's License Class B with Passenger and Air-brake Endorsements, a DPU License, and DOT Medical Card.
• Report to garage on time and pre-inspect tools and equipment prior to beginning work.
• Performs maintenance of a fleet of gasoline and diesel vehicles that include buses, vans, and other support cars and trucks. Maintenance activities include inspections, diagnoses, and repairs.
• Performs maintenance activities of facility including snow removal, road tests, and equipment maintenance to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
• Report to Maintenance Manager any unusual occurrences or incidents which occur during course of shift.
• Complete appropriate paperwork and log appropriate information into computer programs and software.
• Coordinates with Dispatchers to meet demand for vehicles to provide transportation including the availability of vehicles for limited service and equipment to be held for servicing.
• Must be able to respond to emergencies after hours such as breakdowns and snow removal.
• Must be able to perform duties and responsibilities of the Utility Worker position when necessary.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Maintenance Manager.

• 5-10 years of Vehicle Maintenance experience is required.
• Possession of a current CDL Class B license with passenger and air brakes endorsements, as well as the ability to obtain a valid DOT medical card and Massachusetts DPU license.
• ASE Certifications strongly preferred.

Knowledge: This position requires knowledge of diagnostic tools and requires ability to read and write. The ability to read blueprints and wiring schematics is also preferred. Must be able to use transit and maintenance related computer programs or have the ability to learn how to use such programs.
Physical requirements: Incumbent must have a high degree of energy, be physically capable of rapid relocation to site of accidents, and must meet physical, medical, and mobility requirements for operation of a commercial vehicle. Must be able to lift and move heavy items and bend, squad, twist into confined spaces as necessary for inspections and repairs. Must be capable of working evening and/or weekend hours as required.
Interpersonal Skills: Must have excellent communication skills for positive interactions with other Company personnel, public agency personnel, vendors, and the general public. Must be capable of responding to employee inquiries, concerns, suggestions, and complaints.
Work Environment: The work environment is primarily indoors with frequent exposure to outdoor weather, bus fumes, oils and grease, accident site and traffic hazards, and some hazardous materials. Incumbent must be comfortable with occasional work alone in anon-populated area at night.
Supervision: Must be able to perform duties for periods of time unsupervised. This position is reports to the Maintenance Manager, FTM, Inc.
