Mechanical Engineer
Location: Lexington, MA
Active Secret clearance is required due to nature of the work. The Mechanical Engineering Group provides innovative design solutions for advanced technology prototypes. Example projects include laser communication, high-energy lasers, optical sensors, biological agent detectors, and large radar antennas, for systems deployed on ground, maritime, air- and space-borne platforms. The group has expertise in precision engineering, opto-mechanics, mechanisms, electronics packaging, large structures, highly efficient lightweight structures, composite materials and additive manufacturing. The group is the Engineering Divisionâs center for 3D CAD design and data management and is involved in every step of program execution from conceptual design to system integration and test. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, under the direction of a MIT LL Technical Project Manager, to provide support for the mechanical design and testing of complex mechanical, opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical systems.
- Responsibilities will include design, integration, and testing of complex hardware from conceptual design through fabrication and field performance evaluation.
- The candidate must be knowledgeable in a broad range of challenging problems involving structures, mechanisms, thermal systems, optics and electronics.
- This position involves working in close-knit teams with design, analysis and test personnel.
- Candidates must be enthusiastic, innovative and motivated selfâstarters able to work independently, or as part of a group.
- They must possess strong oral and written communication skills and must be able to present status/results to internal and external audiences. Required Skills:
- Experience in mechanical design, assembly and environmental testing of high reliability electronic, electro-optic, mechanisms, or opto-mechanical systems for DoD or aerospace applications.
- Experience with SolidWorks 3D CAD software. Preferred Skills:
- Demonstrated experience with the development of opto-mechanical or electro-mechanical systems utilized on spacecraft and/or aircraft strongly preferred.
- Experience in DoD, military, and/or aerospace applications highly preferred
- Opto-Mechanical experience would be highly preferred. Education and Experience Requirement:
Bachelorâs degree is mandatory. Candidates should have a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering OR Aerospace. A Masterâs degree is a plus (there is some flexibility on the years of experience if the candidate has a Masterâs). Masterâs and 3+ years relevant experience or Bachelorâs and 5+ years relevant experience.
