Position Summary
Our Servers are responsible for greeting and serving Canopy by Hilton Boston Downtown guests in a genuine and friendly manner. Servers may be required to prepare beverages requested by guests and monitor guest behavior and guest alcohol consumption to determine when alcohol service to the guest should cease; notify management of incidents involving excessive alcohol consumption or impaired condition of customers; check identification whenever the age of a guest requesting alcoholic beverage service is questionable.
Essential Functions
- Take food and beverage orders and place orders in point of service system.
- Ensure overall guest satisfaction.
- Set and clear tables in dining areas.
- Stock service stations with items such as ice, napkins, or straws.
- Pick up order from food preparation areas and ensure food is prepared accordingly.
- Delivers food, beverages, condiments, and other requested items
- Ensure that food is prepared correctly and to the guest’s satisfaction; return incorrect or improperly cooked items to the kitchen
- Collect plates and clear table as guests finish their meal
- Prepare guest check and if appropriate complete payment transaction.
- Perform other food and beverage functions such as bartending and bussing in the event of staff staffing shortages or peak periods.
- Prepare workstation for readiness prior to opening and closing of each shift.
- Follow all cash handling and bank operating procedures
- Perform all side work duties according to side work schedules.
- While interacting with guests inform them of enhancements to their dining experience.
- Be aware of guest satisfaction scores and work toward increasing departmental and overall guest satisfaction.
- Practice safe work habits, wear protective safety equipment and follow MSDS and OSHA standards.
- Perform other duties as requested by management
Supportive Functions
In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination supportive function, with the percentage of time performing each function to be determined by the Executive Sous Chef and Food & Drink Leadership based upon the requirements of the Hotel.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school degree or equivalent preferred.
- Prior food service/hospitality experience required
Experience:
- Prior related work experience (hotel experience preferred)
- Strong culinary skills and knowledge of food productions techniques and standards.
- Hilton experience preferred.
Licenses or Certificates:
- TiPS and ServSafe certification (within 30 days if certification is expired)
- First Aid and CPR certified.
Grooming:
- All Team Members must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance according to the Olshan Properties Team Member Handbook.
Other:
- Additional language ability preferred.
- Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger and collect accurate information and resolve conflicts.
