Waste Connections Eastern Region has an immediate opening for a Regional Maintenance Specialist to support the Maintenance Teams. The incumbent will be located at our Region Office and will report to the Regional Maintenance Manager.
This role is pivotal in ensuring the seamless operation and optimal functionality of facilities across the assigned region. The successful candidate will assume a leading role supporting maintenance and asset management efforts across our facilities and oversee diverse maintenance programs, manage acquisitions, and facilitate effective communication between teams and systems. The position combines technical expertise with a strong understanding of maintenance processes, safety protocols, and efficient resource utilization. Job Summary:
- Ensure adherence to Waste Connections’ safety standards from all sites.
- Conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective actions to maintain a safe work environment.
- Foster collaboration between and among various site personnel across all levels.
- Mentor and train Maintenance Managers and Mechanics throughout the Region.
- Conduct audits and site visits at hauling maintenance facilities.
- Identify opportunities with Maintenance Managers on process improvements.
- Conduct training sessions for maintenance personnel on best practices, safety protocols, and the latest technologies.
- Stay informed about industry trends and advancements, and integrate new knowledge into training programs.
- Track productivity and service metrics and seek opportunities for overall improvement by route.
- Develop and distribute reporting of KPI’s to region leadership team.
- Facilitate the rollout of new software’s each site.
- Assist in monthly financial projections and annual budget formulation;
- Assist in regional budget review, to include creating reports, tracking budget changes, etc.
- Communicate regularly with district, division, region and corporate personnel;
- Have regular meetings with the District Team Leaders (DTLs) to communicate maintenance related initiatives and updates;
- Create and analyze maintenance metrics that will maximize reliability of equipment and control variable cost;
- Manage third-party relationships, including contract reviews with vendor, suppliers, and service level agreements with outside dealerships;
- Proactively identify trends and issues occurring in the Region and provide recommendations.
- Provide project management for events, summits, and meetings for field leaders.
- Booking travel, including air, hotel, rental car for Maintenance Team.
- Instill company culture and accountability with those they support and lead.
Requirements:
- 5 years of experience as a Maintenance Manager at a large hauling district.
- 10 years of leadership experience in a large maintenance shop.
- In-depth experience in fleet maintenance and repairs of refuse trucks and equipment.
- Outstanding teambuilding and communication skills.
- Ability to plan, budget, schedule, and supervise multiple projects from concept to completion.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations, maintenance best practice, and industry standards.
- Working knowledge of routing software with solid analytical skills to optimize routes and productivity.
- Experience and understanding of budget preparation and financial accountability to manage P&L.
- Well-developed influencing and presentation skills.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Valid drivers license for travel and access to own vehicle.
- CDL class B with Air endorsement will be considered an asset.
- Ability to travel (up to 75%) to different districts/regions will be required.
