Job Title: Animal Care Technician – Entry Level

Location: Wilmington, MA

Employment Type: 3 month contract to hire

Experience Level: Entry Level

Education Required: High School Diploma or GED (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Animal Care Technician to support the breeding, care, and monitoring of small research animals. This role is essential to ensuring the health, welfare, and proper phenotype of animals used in research. You’ll work closely with our team to maintain biosecurity standards and coordinate with Customer Service on scheduling and order fulfillment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform daily animal husbandry tasks including feeding, cleaning, and monitoring animal health and behavior
• Follow strict protocols for breeding and care to ensure animal welfare and compliance
• Observe and report any changes in animal health or phenotype
• Maintain biosecurity and cleanliness standards across all work areas
• Use tablet computers for data entry and tracking
• Collaborate with Customer Service to manage scheduling and order status

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Biology, or related field preferred
• 2–4 years of related experience and/or training preferred
• Previous experience working with animals is a plus, but not required
• Ability to perform physical tasks including standing for long periods, climbing stairs, and repetitive motion
• Strong attention to detail and punctuality
• Commitment to animal welfare and ethical care practices
• Comfortable using tablet computers and digital tools

Skills:

• Animal care and handling
• Husbandry and sterilization techniques
• Veterinary or laboratory experience
• Knowledge of animal health and welfare standards
• Strong communication and customer service skills

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.25 - $21.25/hr.
