Plumbing Foreman
Job Description
Lead plumbing operations on large-scale commercial and mixed-use new construction projects, including a five-story, 31-unit mixed-use building and a subsequent 100-unit new build. Oversee a field crew, coordinate closely with the general contractor’s superintendent, and ensure all plumbing work meets schedule, quality, and safety expectations.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise all plumbing activities on new commercial and mixed-use construction projects, ensuring work meets project specifications and code requirements.
- Manage and coordinate a crew of approximately six plumbers, including internal team members and journeymen/apprentices from external partners.
- Work closely with the general contractor’s superintendent to align the plumbing scope with overall construction timelines, milestones, and deadlines.
- Plan, schedule, and sequence plumbing tasks to keep the project on track and proactively address potential delays or conflicts.
- Delegate daily tasks and responsibilities to journeymen and apprentices, ensuring each team member understands their role and deliverables.
- Interpret and work from blueprints, plumbing floor plans, and schematics to lay out and install piping systems accurately.
- Oversee installation of PVC, cast iron, and other piping systems for commercial and multi-family applications, including apartments and commercial office spaces.
- Ensure all plumbing installations, including rough-in and finish work, meet quality standards and comply with local codes and regulations.
- Monitor jobsite safety practices and enforce OSHA standards, promoting a safe working environment for all crew members.
- Communicate project status, progress, and any issues or risks to leadership through regular updates and reports.
- Collaborate with other trades and site leadership to resolve field issues and coordinate work in shared spaces.
- Support and mentor apprentices and less experienced plumbers, fostering skill development and strong work habits.
- Proven experience as a plumbing foreman on commercial, industrial, or mixed-use residential/multi-family apartment projects.
- Active Massachusetts Journeyman Plumbing License.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, plumbing floor plans, and schematics.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with a general contractor’s superintendent and site leadership.
- Experience delegating tasks and managing journeymen and apprentices on active construction sites.
- Hands-on experience with plumbing installation in new construction environments, including PVC and cast iron piping.
- Proficiency in organizing and overseeing plumbing installations for multi-story and multi-unit buildings.
- Ability to maintain schedules, manage deadlines, and adapt to changing site conditions.
- Experience in commercial new construction, including mixed-use buildings with both apartment units and commercial office spaces.
- Comfort working on large projects such as five-story, multi-unit buildings and high-unit-count new builds.
- Capability to use basic hand and power tools required for plumbing work, with a minimal personal tool set.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to address field issues quickly and effectively.
- Leadership qualities that support mentoring and guiding apprentices and less experienced plumbers.
Join a company that values trust, open communication, and long-term growth. You can expect regular opportunities for pay increases, a strong pipeline of large and consistent projects, and a leadership team that takes employee concerns seriously and addresses them directly on-site when needed. The culture emphasizes autonomy and respect—team members are trusted to do their jobs without micromanagement, while still receiving support when they need it.
Work Environment
This role is based on commercial new construction sites, starting with a five-story, 31-unit mixed-use building in Roslindale and continuing with a 100-unit new build in Cambridge. You will work in active construction environments, coordinating with general contractors and multiple trades. The work involves installation of PVC, cast iron, and other piping systems in multi-story structures, using standard plumbing hand and power tools. Hours follow typical construction schedules, with work performed on-site in a field setting that requires adherence to safety protocols and OSHA standards.
