Senior Director Workplace Experience & Real Estate
This critical leadership role will lead the Real Estate, Workplace Experience, and Physical Security function for Toast globally. The Senior Director will be instrumental in defining and executing our global real estate portfolio strategy, ensuring our physical spaces are secure, engaging, and aligned with our growth objectives. A core responsibility is to design, implement, and continuously evolve our global hybrid work program, creating a seamless, inclusive, and productive experience for in-office Toasters. This leader will manage complex global transactions, oversee physical security protocols to safeguard our people and assets, and champion a culture of operational excellence and an outstanding employee workplace experience across all our international locations. Responsibilities- Oversee and lead the annual capital planning process for all real estate and facilities projects, ensuring alignment with long-range business objectives and financial forecasts.
- Oversee our global vendor and third-party contract strategy to optimize service delivery (ex. janitorial, maintenance, food service vendors, etc.) with a focus on efficiency and cost savings.
- Establish and report on key performance indicators related to space utilization, operational efficiency, and workplace experience satisfaction.
- Direct the deployment and maintenance of all physical security technology and access control systems globally.
- Ensure all physical spaces comply with local, national, and international Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) regulations
- Lead a global team of full-time employees and contractors, with a focus on motivating, coaching, and effective performance management
- Serve as the primary liaison between the WERE team and key leaders and stakeholders (ex. Finance, People Team, IT, etc.)
- Encourage and guide the use of technology and AI, to help automate and encourage a more efficient and predictive planning process.
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience managing integrated global corporate real estate, facilities, and physical security functions.
- Demonstrated success leading a global real estate portfolio, including complex transaction negotiation, capital project management, and strategic planning.
- Proven ability to design and implement a comprehensive hybrid work strategy for a fast-growing, global technology company.
- Expert knowledge of physical security systems, risk management, and incident response across a diverse international footprint.
- Experience managing multi-million dollar budgets and leading global, cross-functional teams (direct reports, vendors, and cross-functional partners).
- Proven ability to lead a matrixed and global team of Real Estate, Facilities, and Workplace Experience professionals.
- Advanced degree (MBA or relevant Master's) and/or relevant industry certifications (e.g., CoreNet MCR, CPP).
- Experience in a high-growth environment, overseeing significant global expansion activities.
- Deep expertise in workplace design and space utilization strategies that leverage technology to enhance employee engagement and productivity.
- Fluency in real estate financial analysis including lease accounting principles (e.g., FASB).
- A track record of successfully integrating acquired company spaces and security protocols into a unified global standard.
