A day in the life

You start your morning translating plan sets into a clear scope, validating quantities, and building a competitive estimate. By midday, you’re collaborating with project managers, engineers, and specialty subcontractors to resolve questions, align assumptions, and sharpen pricing. In the afternoon, you’re on-site assessing conditions and risks, updating your cost database to reflect current market realities, and preparing client-ready proposals that tell the full value story.

Your impact

• Develop precise cost models for electrical work—capturing materials, labor, equipment, and overhead for competitive bids and budgets.
• Interpret drawings, specifications, and addenda to define scope, identify alternates, and surface clarifications.
• Partner with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather inputs and validate estimate accuracy.
• Visit job sites to assess logistics, access, and existing conditions that affect cost and schedule.
• Maintain and refine a current pricing database for labor and materials to keep estimates market-competitive.
• Solicit, review, and level supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Assemble proposal content and client presentations that clearly communicate scope and assumptions.
• Track budgets post-award and recommend cost-optimization strategies as projects progress.

• Proven background in electrical estimating within the construction environment.
• In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, applicable codes, and regulations.
• Hands-on experience with estimating platforms and the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Exceptional quantitative and analytical capabilities.

• Ability to prioritize and deliver across multiple concurrent pursuits.
• Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or related discipline preferred; equivalent experience considered.
