Early Childhood Lead Teacher
Position Description: The Early Childhood Lead teacher is responsible for planning and implementing the curriculum, assessing the educational development of their students, communicating with families, and supporting the mission of the school.
The Lead Teacher will:
- Plan and implement a well-balanced curriculum that includes daily activities designed to meet children's needs, consistent with best practices in early childhood development and education
- Possess and utilize knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion pedagogy to plan and execute developmentally appropriate and engaging instruction
- Collaborate with co-teachers, learning specialists, and special subject teachers
- Teach developmentally appropriate and research-based early math and literacy skills
- Incorporate elements of inquiry and project-based learning
- Plan and implement activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of our students
- Utilize observation and documentation to assess and monitor growth in all areas.
- Develop and administer developmentally appropriate assessments to evaluate student progress toward learning objectives
- Work with learning specialists to identify students requiring differentiation and implement accommodations as necessary
- Maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and safety
- Communicate regularly with families concerning student progress and information about academic programming and classroom events
- Conduct parent-teacher conferences and write narrative progress reports twice a year to record and communicate students’ progress
- Support and supervise associate teachers or student teachers, as applicable
- Manage classroom administrative tasks, including taking daily attendance and ordering materials
- Perform dismissal, lunch, and recess duties as assigned
- Plan field trips and other activities to enrich the educational experience
- Attend and contribute to scheduled staff meetings, as well as all-school events (Back-to-School Nights, parent conferences, admissions events, etc.) that may take place outside of regular work hours
- Engage in regular professional development opportunities to ensure continual growth and renewal
- Familiarity with the National Association of the Education of Young Children's Developmentally Appropriate Practices
- Assume responsibility for other projects as assigned by the head of school, associate head, or division head
REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s degree in education or a related field preferred
- Experience working with children in this age range (age 3-5)
- Proven ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse learning environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with project-based learning preferred
