Technical Research Asst - (3274872)
The primary focus of the Molecular Neurobiology Laboratory (MNL) is on elucidating the regulatory mechanisms of midbrain dopamine (mDA) neurons with the long-term goal of identifying pathways and developing platforms for treatment of neurodegenerative disorders with a special focus on Parkinson's disease. The MNL also investigates the pathological processes involved in neurodegenerative disorders, at the cellular and molecular levels coupled with the use of animal models. A translational aspect of this work involves stem cell research and personalized cell therapy of PD. The MNL pioneered the generation of clinical grade induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) using our novel reprogramming methods. Current projects include autologous cell transplantation studies and further investigation into optimizing cell reprogramming, in vitro differentiation, and post-transplant cell survival among others.
