Barista

Who are we?

Greetings and bienvenus! Nouvelle Maison is a French provisions store and café in the heart of downtown Winchester, offering cheese and charcuterie, fine foods, wine and spirits, and a full café. We’re seeking a friendly, reliable and energetic Barista to join our café team.

This role is part-time or full-time and you must be able to work evenings (until 8pm) and/ or weekends.

Location: 30 Church Street, Winchester MA. We are next door to Winchester train station (Lowell line) and free parking is available.

Job Description

As a Barista, you will be at the heart of the café experience at Nouvelle Maison. You will prepare high-quality coffee drinks, support the pastry and bakery counter, and help create a warm and inviting environment for guests in the cafe and across the store.

Responsibilities:

• Warmly greet every customer and proactively offer assistance.
• Prepare and serve consistently delicious espresso drinks, coffees, and teas using a super-automatic espresso machine.
• Set up, restock, and maintain an attractive and well-presented pastry and bakery counter.
• Accurately process transactions using the Square POS system and handle payments with care.
• Answer customer questions, provide product recommendations (coffee, pastries, fine grocery items), and ensure every guest feels welcome.
• Keep the café and seating area clean, tidy, and well-organized, including light dishwashing and general tidying.
• Follow all food safety and hygiene protocols and adhere to opening/closing procedures and daily checklists.
• Work closely with the store, bakery, cheese, and wine teams to create a seamless, high-quality customer experience.

What we’re looking for:

• 1+ year of experience in customer service, café work, or food retail (espresso bar, coffee shop, bakery, etc.).
• Excellent people skills: warm, patient, clear communication and a positive attitude.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple tasks at once, and stay organized.
• Reliability, punctuality, and a strong team-oriented mindset
• Comfort with basic math and using a POS system.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs.
• Interest in great coffee and baked goods, with a desire to learn and grow.
• French is not required, but an interest in French culture is a plus.

Availability:

• Full-time or Part-time position.
• Must be available to work weekend shifts and some evenings (typically until around 7–8 pm), depending on business needs.

• Ability to work with diverse backgrounds.
• Flexibility (procedures may evolve as we work to improve and innovate).
• Reliable transportation (Public transportation is available through bus and commuter rail)

Pay: $17.00 - $23.00 per hour
