Postdoctoral Fellow - Immunology
The overall focus of the Charles lab is to decrease the global burden of mucosal and enteric infections of import affecting resource-poor and marginalized populations. More specifically, work in the lab is focused on furthering our understanding of host-pathogen and immune responses during human infection by V. cholerae (the cause of cholera) and Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi and Paratyphi A (the primary cause of enteric fever) and to identify immunogenic antigens or molecular signatures for vaccine and diagnostic assay development. Research in the lab utilizes human patient samples to perform a variety of immunological, functional, and genome-scale assays to address 1) fundamental questions about protective immunity during human infection with S. Typhi or V. cholerae and the novel mechanisms these pathogens utilize to cause infection and 2) to develop rapid diagnostic and seroepidemiological tools that can be used in resource-limited settings.
The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated molecular biologist and/or immunologist, have a Ph.D. or M.D. degree, and a strong background in immunology with extensive experience in immunological techniques (Flow cytometry experience required).
Responsibilities
- Lead research projects including developing and optimizing assays and analyzing and interpreting data.
- Lead scientific analysis, abstract submissions, and manuscript development for 1-2 projects at a time.
- Travel to collaborative sites to support our capacity-building efforts.
- Supervise/Mentor trainees in the lab. Participate in collaborative grant-writing projects.
Qualifications:
- PhD in immunology, infection biology, or a related field
- 7+ years of experience in an academic, research, or related setting
- Experience in cytometry and immunological assays (i.e. ELISA and multiplex-based assays)
- Strong analytical skills
- strong track record of publication
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Interested applicants are encouraged to email a cover letter of their interest, including how they meet the qualifications for the position and a list of publications highlighting their contributions, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references as a single pdf file to Richelle Charles ([email protected]) with the following subject line: “Postdoctoral fellow applicant: YOUR LAST NAME". The position is available immediately.
