Location: North Reading, MA 01864 (100% Onsite)
Duration: 9 to 12 Months Contract
Payrate: 42-50/h on W2
We're seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer for a contract position to drive innovation in machine design and product development for our next-generation System Level Test platform. In this role, you'll tackle complex engineering challenges, develop scalable technical solutions, and collaborate across functions from concept through high-volume manufacturing.
As part of our core R&D Group, you'll work on cutting-edge projects involving the latest CPU/GPU technologies, mobile ICs, automotive applications, ASICs, and high-performance computing hardware. You'll also support our Thermal and Heat Transfer team in designing and deploying precision laboratory instrumentation. Key Responsibilities
Product Development & Design Leadership
- Lead the design and implementation of our Titan HP System Level Test platform, enabling customers' future semiconductor technology roadmaps
- Drive conceptualization and communicate complex machine design solutions to cross-functional stakeholders
- Own continuous design activities for subsystems in new semiconductor tester platforms
- Integrate sophisticated precision subsystems including pneumatics, robotics & automation, fluid cooling systems, and rack infrastructure
- Design, plan, and execute research lab activities including test planning, instrumentation setup, and data analysis
- Correlate analytical models with experimental results to validate designs
- Utilize quick-turn manufacturing methods (3D printing, internal machine shop, external vendors) to accelerate design validation
- Support product development from early-stage prototyping through first article builds and transfer to high-volume manufacturing
- Develop expertise in semiconductor manufacturing processes, IC packaging, and thermal management
- Stay current with emerging engineering practices through company-hosted conferences and industry forums
Education & Experience
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (M.S. preferred)
- 2+ years of post-graduate experience in machine design or mechanical engineering
- Bonus: Experience designing fluid systems, thermal management solutions, or heat transfer systems
- CAD & Design Tools: High proficiency in SolidWorks, PDM, Enterprise, and MRP systems
- Engineering Standards: Strong working knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 and GD&T principles
- Analysis Tools: Experience with FEA, tolerance stack-up analysis, and analytical design validation
- Fluid/Pneumatic Systems: Demonstrated ability to design and integrate fluid and pneumatic systems
- Data & Controls: Familiarity with LabVIEW, MATLAB (SIL/HIL), and data acquisition systems
- Statistical Analysis: Exposure to Minitab, Python, or R for engineering insights
- Bonus: Control theory experience through MATLAB/Simulink
- Self-motivated with strong initiative to drive projects independently
- Ability to rapidly conceptualize and communicate design ideas through CAD
- Disciplined engineering approach with rigorous analytical support for design decisions
- Strong system-level thinking for electromechanical architecture, sensor integration, and control systems
- Excellent collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams
