About The Role

Leading role specializing in investment taxation and investment tax reporting in Canada and the US. The role will track fund investments, mainly seed capital investments, made by various Sun Life’s Canadian and US companies to ensure accurate tax reporting and tax compliance for these investments.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Working with Sun Life’s internal Tax Advisory team and external advisors to understand tax technical consequences of various fund investments and alternative assets
• Tracking tax attributes of fund investments, such as percentage ownership, tax cost basis, surplus and E&P
• Assisting with tracking inside and outside basis for SLF investment in partnership structures
• Understanding and communicating tax technical analysis of fund investments to ensure accurate tax reporting and compliance
• Assisting with calculations of tax provisions, including FAPI, GILTI and Subpart F income, for fund investments made by various Sun Life entities in Canada and the US
• Assisting with foreign affiliate/CFC filings in Canada and the US
• Liaising with asset management companies within Sun Life’s group to obtain information and documentation required for tax reporting and compliance in Canada and the US
• Overseeing and coordinating the workflow of tax outsourcing arrangements for various fund investments
• Supporting government tax audits in Canada and the US in relation to fund investments
  
  

What You’ll Need To Succeed

• Technical knowledge and/or working experience in area of investment taxation in Canada or the US is an asset
• Strong knowledge of tax reporting and tax compliance for corporate and non-corporate legal entities (such as partnership and trusts)
• Understanding investment management business
• Good project management skills, with ability to coordinate workflow for outsourcing arrangements and secondments
• Strong analytical skills are critical
• Excellent oral and written communication skills - able to communicate technical information
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a detail-oriented mindset
• Canadian or the US CPA designation
• Completed Canadian or the US professional tax courses

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
