Bankruptcy Associate Attorney – Boston or New York

Direct Counsel is seeking a Bankruptcy Associate to join a prestigious Am Law 100 firm with a nationally recognized Bankruptcy & Business Reorganization Practice. The role is open in either the Boston or New York office.

The ideal candidate will have 4–7 years of experience in bankruptcy and restructuring law, preferably with a top-tier law firm. Candidates with federal clerkship experience—particularly with a U.S. Bankruptcy Court—are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

• Represent debtors, secured and unsecured creditors, indenture trustees, bondholder/noteholder groups, collateral agents, bidders and acquirers, creditor committees, trustees, liquidation trustees, and other stakeholders in Chapter 11 proceedings and related matters.

• Draft and negotiate motions, complaints, forbearance and settlement agreements, sale documents (including bidding procedures and asset purchase agreements), plans of reorganization, and related pleadings.

• Present motions and represent clients at hearings in bankruptcy court and other insolvency proceedings (e.g., receiverships).

• Collaborate with a national team of more than 50 bankruptcy and restructuring professionals.

Preferred Experience:

• Familiarity with corporate trust and inter-creditor issues, distressed healthcare, senior living, education, manufacturing, or working with tax-advantaged investors is a plus.

• Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.

• Demonstrated ability to manage complex matters and communicate effectively with clients and teams.

Qualifications:

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.

• Active bar membership and in good standing in the jurisdiction of intended office (or timely admission required).

• Strong academic credentials and relevant work experience required.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Salary range: $290,000 – $390,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
