School driver

Reports To: Executive Director

Location: Cambridge, MA

Job Type: Part-time 15-20 hours per week

Salary: $23-24 per hour

Job Summary:

The School Van Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of students to and from school and school-related activities. This position requires adherence to traffic laws, school district policies, and the ability to maintain a safe and respectful environment for all passengers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate a school van in a safe and responsible manner along designated routes.
• 
  
  Always conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle at the end of each trip.
• Always check the van at the end of each trip to ensure all children were dropped off
• Ensure students board and exit the bus safely.
• Maintain order and discipline on the bus in accordance with district policies.
• Report any delays, accidents, or incidents to the appropriate authorities.
• Maintain a clean and well-kept bus interior.
• Assist students with disabilities or special needs as required.
• Keep accurate records of mileage, fuel use, and student counts.
• Strictly adhere to transportation procedure and protocol and company’s policy
• Communicate with parents as a representative of the school and the staff (drop off/pick up types of communication)
• Participate in safety meetings and required training sessions.

Work Schedule:

• Typically split shifts: mornings and afternoons, Monday through Friday.
• Occasional evening or weekend work for field trips or school events.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit for long periods.
• Capable of climbing steps, bending, and assisting children when needed.
• Visual and hearing acuity required for safe driving.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• 
  Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and 7D License
• Clean driving record and ability to pass background and drug screening.
• Ability to remain calm and act appropriately in emergency situations.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of local traffic laws and regulations.
