ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, CAREER SERVICES, Communication, Career Services Advisors

The Assistant Director is a valuable resource for COM students, and an integral member of the COM Career Services Team. The Assistant Director’s main responsibilities are to coach and advise students and alumni, manage career development initiatives as well as hire and manage a direct report and graduate student career counseling assistants that take career appointments. As a member of the COM Career Services team, the Assistant Director will work with the Director to assist and implement strategies designed to increase attendance at events including workshops, career fairs and networking nights. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
- (30%) Coach and advise all College of Communication majors, minors, and alumni on career objectives, direction, personal branding, interviewing, and professional etiquette and maintain student notes and records from coaching appointments.
- (40%) Manage career education initiatives for the office including but not limited to workshops and events that may include employers. Note that some events that may occur after hours.
- (20%) Hire, train and manage a direct report (Career Counselor) as well as several graduate student career counseling assistants to take resume, cover letter and LinkedIn appointments.
- (10%) Partner with the Director on all career services initiatives including COM Career Events including Career Employer events and Networking Nights.
- Develop and maintain relationships with alumni to recruit them for networking events.
- Assist with web-based recruiting system, BU Handshake and data collection.
- Assist with COM First Destination Reports, in unison with the Center for Career Development, to be reported to the National Association for Colleges and Employers.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- B.A./B.S. required, master's degree preferred.
- Three to five years of related experience.
