Medical physics resident

We are inviting applications for the Harvard Medical Physics Residency Program in Radiation Oncology Physics for the academic year beginning 7/1/2026. This is a CAMPEP-accredited therapy program and is jointly administered by the Departments of Radiation Oncology of three major Harvard Medical School teaching affiliates in Boston: Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Our residency is structured as a three-year training program which includes an initial year of research, followed by two years of clinical training. We accept two residents per year. Our program is intended for candidates with doctoral degrees in medical physics, physics, and related physical sciences or engineering who are interested in careers as medical physicists in radiation oncology. The program provides both research and hands-on clinical training in all aspects of radiation oncology physics. Clinical training takes place on a rotating basis among the three academic centers as well in a rotation at one of several affiliated community-based hospitals. The Harvard Medical Physics Residency Program does not require the completion of a CAMPEP degree program prior to admission to the program.

The residency program includes a full CAMPEP-accredited Certificate Program , which allows the core medical physics courses to be completed during the residency for residents who have not completed a CAMPEP certificate or degree. Facilities and Equipment:

Residents are mentored and supervised in research and clinical training by a wide variety of experts in the field, including faculty members, clinical physicists, physicians, dosimetrists, therapists, and engineers. Our training resources include an extensive array of equipment and facilities: state-of-the-art linear accelerators for IMRT, VMAT, SRS, SBRT, and IGRT, two proton facilities, MR-linac, two Ethos adaptive therapy machines, dedicated stereotactic facilities, Cyberknife, dedicated image-guided brachytherapy facilities, IORT, 4D-CT, and MRI simulation and imaging facilities.

The Harvard Medical Physics Residency Program is supported by three major radiation oncology departments in the Boston area: Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
