Dimensional Quality Inspector -- CMM/FARO Metrology Specialist
Job Description
Job Description
Your day at a glance
Step onto the shop floor at 6:30am, review the traveler and work instructions, and load the first part of the day onto the CMM. You’ll interpret engineering drawings with GD&T callouts (per ANSI Y14.5), plan your inspection approach, and combine CMM routines with hand metrology. Through the morning you’ll alternate between first-piece approvals, in-process checks, and final inspections on fabricated metal parts, occasionally setting up the FARO arm when it’s the better tool for the job.
Throughout the shift, you document what you see: populate inspection reports, summarize any rework or waste, and enter results into the quality database. When something’s off, you help issue and log Non-Conformance Reports, then verify corrective actions hit the mark. You’ll keep QA/QC files tidy and complete, and you’ll collaborate closely with your manager, following verbal and written direction drawn from blueprints, process specs, sketches, travelers, and work instructions.
What you’ll do- Inspect parts using a range of metrology tools, including CMM; FARO experience is a plus.
- Interpret engineering drawings/specifications and apply GD&T to determine conformance.
- Execute first-article, in-process, and final inspections for parts, assemblies, and subassemblies.
- Record and report results, summarize rework/scrap, and enter data into the quality database.
- Prepare inspection/test reports; maintain assignment-related QA/QC documentation.
- Assist in issuing and logging NCRs and track follow-up.
- Perform tests and inspections as required and as directed by the manager.
- Follow verbal/written instructions from blueprints, travelers, work instructions, process specs, sketches, and managerial direction.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on inspection experience.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 QMS; commitment to meeting internal, industry, and customer quality standards.
- Strong print-reading skills and expert use of GD&T (ANSI Y14.5).
- Basic understanding of ISO quality programs and familiarity with ASME Code.
- Proven QC background in metal fabrication.
- Proficiency with precision hand tools (micrometers, vernier calipers, etc.).
- Comfort with go/no-go gauges and fixtures.
- Basic knowledge of NDT processes is a plus.
- GD&T proficiency required.
- Hours: Monday–Thursday, 6:30am–4:00pm; Friday, 6:30am–10:30am.
- Compensation: Up to $30.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
