Supplier Development and Quality Specialist

Location/Division Specific Information
The Chemical Analysis Division (CAD) provides a diverse mix of analytical instruments and associated services to a broad range of end user markets including Safety & Security, Environmental, Food Safety, Energy, Mining, Life Science Manufacturing and Recycling, to name a few. Its instruments are deployed in the field and on the line, in challenging environments where customers put a premium on robustness, reliability and ease of use. They allow them to make decisions where they operate and streamline their businesses. CAD is a complex division with a global footprint, broad product portfolio and diverse customer base.

In this key role, you'll help drive the implementation and execution of strategic sourcing projects and initiatives. You'll assess and closely drive the supply base and manufacturing engineering to align capabilities with technical requirements, and you'll collaborate globally with commodity, operations and R&D leaders.
You'll also be directly involved on New Product Development & Introduction projects (NPDI) and will be responsible for evaluating and driving supplier technical qualifications that are in alignment with the Divisional and global category strategies.
This position will support and participate in initiatives to drive best-in-class supplier/sourcing quality improvement.
A Day in the Life:
Qualify supplier capability and facilitate approvals of new direct material and assemblies. This also includes audits, performance monitoring and reviews, as well as assisting key suppliers towards industrial standards of excellence.
Manage both tactical execution with initiatives vital to driving higher productivity, lead time and cost reduction projects.
Lead and Collaborate with Commercial, Engineering, Manufacturing and Project teams to drive key initiatives with effective communication.
Drive continued efficiency improvements through the effective use of metrics, 5S, and the PPI process Recommend and implement changes in manufacturing procedures to improve product quality and production efficiency
Develop technical cost analysis tools and processes designed to analyze & deliver recommendations and results for product cost & manufacturing improvements.
Identify and recommend changes in material and processes to improve cost and productivity.
Participate in sourcing programs to identify, qualify and recommends appropriate suppliers for the product line.
Work with multi-functional teams for product transfer, insourcing or outsourcing initiatives.
Proactively provide advancements in sourcing technologies to improve productivity, lead time and performance.
Travel to lead development and manufacturing projects at ThermoFisher sites as well as suppliers.
Manage selected CAD suppliers in North America and abroad if needed.
How will you get there?
Education
Bachelor's degree in Engineering required, and preferably in Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering,
Ideal candidates will have a MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
Experience
3-5 years' experience with Printed Circuit Board Assemblies, Electro-mechanical, Power & Thermal Management or Cable assemblies, Machining, Casting, Forging, Coating, Injection molding from a development, test, or procurement standpoint required.
At least 3 years' experience in development, qualification, and management of external suppliers required.
At least 3 years' experience with Fabrication methods, Coating & Paintings, Electronic Cabinets, and Joining Processes required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
High level of understanding of manufacturing processes and practices of multi-cultural, multi-commodity suppliers (i.e. PCBA, sheet metal, injection molding and contract manufacturers).
Skilled in software and enterprise systems to support both Sourcing and Engineering functions including ERP, Visio, RCA tools, CAPA processes, CAD tools such as SolidWorks and ANSYS or similar, MS Office.
Adaptable to changing requirements in projects, resources and business scenarios while being able to focus & deliver on goals and objectives.
Knowledge of the strategic sourcing process and practical application of the process to sourcing projects, supplier qualifications and supplier audits
Excellent interpersonal skills as well as oral & written communication
Highly analytical and knowledge of statistical tools such as DFMA, Tolerancing, Design for Six Sigma, etc.
Certified for ISO 9001 and auditing, IPC 610, and desired to have EN, PED and ATEX directives.
Strong project management skills
English proficiency and more languages highly desired
Ability to travel up to 25% annually.
