Union Payroll Specialist
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Clerk with a strong background in subcontractor union payroll processing to join our team. The successful candidate will work in a team environment and will be responsible for the efficient and accurate processes of weekly payroll functions for our union employees, ensuring compliance with union agreements and labor laws. This role requires attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with project managers, and union officials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process weekly payroll for union employees, ensuring accuracy in hours worked, pay rates, and deductions.
- Maintain accurate payroll records, including time sheets, pay changes, and employee data.
- Collaborate with union representatives to interpret collective bargaining agreements and implement relevant payroll provisions.
- Assist in the resolution of payroll discrepancies and respond to employee inquiries regarding pay and deductions.
- Prepare and submit required payroll reports and remittances, including taxes, benefits, union dues, labor cost reports and certified payroll reports.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, as well as adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Participate in payroll audits and investigations as necessary.
- Support the finance department with month-end close processes and audit requests.
- Stay current with changes in payroll regulations, union requirements, and best practices.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of in-house payroll processing experience, with a focus on union payroll.
- Strong understanding of collective bargaining agreements and union labor laws.
- Proficient in payroll software and Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Excel + Word).
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels.
- Discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive payroll information.
