Director of Safety & Risk Management
LEI Corporation, a family-owned company with over 40 years of experience, is a leader in commercial landscape construction and related services throughout New England. As the organization continues to expand, LEI is seeking a dedicated Director of Safety & Risk Management to champion workplace safety, compliance, and risk management across all operations. Responsibilities
- Lead and continuously improve LEI’s company-wide safety program, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures, and best practices across all divisions.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Conduct regular jobsite inspections, facility audits, and safety assessments to identify and mitigate risks.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, near misses, and property damage; identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Develop and deliver new hire safety orientation and ongoing employee training programs.
- Coordinate toolbox talks, safety meetings, and continuing education initiatives to promote safety awareness.
- Maintain OSHA logs, training records, certifications, and all required safety documentation.
- Monitor safety performance through reporting, trend analysis, and key performance indicators.
- Partner with managers and supervisors to proactively identify hazards and reduce workplace risks.
- Develop Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), site-specific safety plans, and safe work procedures.
- Oversee PPE standards and ensure company-wide compliance.
- Assist with workers’ compensation coordination, return-to-work programs, and insurance loss-control initiatives.
- Support DOT compliance, fleet safety, driver qualification files, and transportation safety initiatives.
- Assist with client safety prequalification requirements and safety audits.
- Serve as the company’s primary safety resource, fostering a positive, proactive, and accountable safety culture.
Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive safety leadership experience.
- Experience within commercial construction, landscape construction, site development, or a related construction industry.
- Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards.
- Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, incident investigations, and employee training.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build relationships with employees at all levels while promoting accountability and continuous improvement.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel between company locations and jobsites.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Health & Safety, Construction Management, Industrial Safety, or a related field (preferred).
- OSHA 500 and/or OSHA 510 Certification (preferred).
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST) certification (preferred).
- Experience with DOT compliance and fleet safety programs (preferred).
- First Aid/CPR Instructor certification (preferred).
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
