Test Engineer - Electro-Mechanical
Electro-Mechanical Test Engineer
Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Electro-Mechanical Test Engineer to develop, implement and execute comprehensive test programs for electro-mechanical assemblies and systems. The role focuses on test planning, automation, data acquisition and validation of hardware and firmware to ensure product performance, reliability and compliance with industry safety standards. The engineer will support prototype validation, production test development and cross-functional problem solving from lab to field. Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed test plans and procedures for electro-mechanical systems covering functional, environmental, vibration, shock, thermal cycling and reliability testing.
- Design, assemble and maintain test fixtures, harnesses and lab setups for mechanical and PCB-level testing including In-Circuit Test (ICT) and functional test stations.
- Implement automated test sequences using LabVIEW and NI TestStand, integrating PXI, cDAQ, GPIB and other DAQ hardware to collect and analyze test data.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instruments including oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, signal generators and spectrum analyzers to perform measurements and debug circuits.
- Perform embedded systems and firmware validation, interfacing with MCUs and peripherals via CAN, LIN, SPI, I2C, UART, RS-232/RS-485 and Ethernet.
- Execute motor control tests, sensor and actuator validation, and system integration testing for mechatronic assemblies.
- Plan and execute environmental/climatic chamber testing, vibration and shock testing and thermal cycling to validate product robustness.
- Develop and run PCB test strategies, including ICT, boundary-scan and functional verification, and support metrology/CMM measurements when required.
- Analyze test results, perform root cause investigations, drive corrective actions and document findings in clear, actionable test reports.
- Support DFMEA/DFT activities, participate in failure analysis, calibration, and continuous improvement initiatives using Six Sigma tools where applicable.
- Ensure test systems and procedures comply with applicable safety and regulatory standards (CE/UL/IEC) and maintain accurate test documentation and traceability.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering or related field; Masters preferred.
- 5+ years of handson experience in electromechanical test engineering or equivalent role with responsibility for test planning and execution.
- Proven experience with LabVIEW, NI TestStand and test automation for PXI, cDAQ and GPIB data acquisition platforms.
- Strong instrumentation skills with oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, signal generators and spectrum analyzers.
- Experience in environmental/climatic chamber testing, vibration and shock testing, thermal cycling and reliability test methods.
- Experience with PCB testing (ICT, functional test), embedded systems testing, firmware validation and in-circuit diagnostics.
- Familiarity with PLCs, sensors, actuators, motor control and communication protocols (CAN, LIN, SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet, RS-232/RS-485).
- Proficiency in Python and MATLAB for data analysis and automation; working knowledge of C/C++ and Simulink for embedded test integration.
- Experience with mechanical fixture design, SolidWorks or AutoCAD for test hardware design.
- Knowledge of calibration, metrology/CMM, root cause analysis, DFMEA/DFT, failure analysis and producing formal test reports.
- Understanding of safety and regulatory standards (CE/UL/IEC) and IPC soldering standards; attention to detail for documentation and traceability.
- Strong problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills; ability to prioritize tasks in a fastpaced development environment.
- Preferred: NI certification (LabVIEW), IPC certification, Six Sigma or continuous improvement training.
