School program staff
After-School Program (ASP) staff are responsible for the care of Friends Academy students- Early Childhood to Grade 8. The hours of operation are from school dismissal (3pm Mondays-Thursdays, 2pm Fridays) until 5pm.
The After-School Program staff member will sign into the office, familiarize themselves with any updates to the plan of the day, and meet the students in the designated classrooms. They will then provide a light snack (after reviewing allergy information of students), take attendance, and help with the transition to the playground and/or any enrichment programs that are being offered that day. Staff are encouraged to facilitate a game or activity, and are otherwise asked to be at the different activity stations to facilitate positive interactions among students.
Reports to
ASP Staff will take guidance from the ASP Coordinator, and will report to the Director of External Programs as their supervisor. On a daily basis, they will be assigned to a group or activity. Staff are expected to communicate with their team, and lead staff members are asked to delegate tasks as needed.
Essential Functions
- Supervise and care for students
- As needed, manage a team to implement daily activities with students
- Encourage student participation in all activities and club trips
- Manage behavior of students in all assigned groups and activities
- Responsible for safety of students in all assigned groups and activities
- Resolve conflicts between students according to Friends Academy policies and values
- Act as a role model for students and other camp employees
- Attend all mandatory trainings, and retain documentation provided
- Complete mandatory online trainings
- Respect yourself, students, peers, and supervisors
- Meet with the Director of External Programs for supervision as required
- Communicate proactively with ASP Office about any scheduling limitations
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Must be able to acquire and demonstrate professionalism and appropriate work behavior, including regular attendance, focus on job tasks, and ability to follow directions
- Must have strong behavior management skills and preferably youth-work experience
- Must have strong communication and teamwork skills
- Must adapt to a variety of work environments, activities, and expectations
