Instructor/Assistant Professor of Energy Systems Technology (HVAC)

Job Description:
Springfield Technical Community College seeks a dedicated and experienced Energy Systems Technology (HVAC) full-time faculty member to join our School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching in the discipline, as well as developing curricula in controls, heat, refrigeration, power plant operations, building management, heat pumps, and HVAC systems design. Understanding contemporary community college students, many of whom are adults, this faculty member guides students through theoretical and practical/lab learning environments, preparing graduates from a Certificate or Degree program for careers in fields that continue to evolve and expand. The faculty member will also contribute to the college's mission of fostering student success through innovative teaching and community engagement, which includes early college partnerships, as well as maintaining industry relationships
Under the supervision of the Dean of STEM and as a colleague in the Department of Electronics, Energy, Optics and Mechanical Technologies, the Instructor/Assistant Professor of Energy Systems Technology (HVAC) will:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and update curriculum materials to reflect the latest advancements in HVAC and refrigeration.
- Provide hands-on laboratory instruction, ensuring students gain practical experience with industry- standard equipment and techniques.
- Mentor and advise students on academic and career pathways in the field of HVAC and refrigeration.
- Collaborate with colleagues to design and implement effective teaching strategies that support diverse learning styles.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with industry trends and educational practices.
- Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum planning, and assessment activities.
- Contribute to the college community through service on committees, student recruitment, and community outreach.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student success and retention.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the department chair or academic dean and meet contractual requirements.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with faculty, administrators (e.g., deans and assistant deans), and college staff on initiatives that support STCC students.
- Attend meetings and serve on college committees and working groups.
- Ensure that student learning outcomes for courses and the program are current and assessed regularly, documenting the process and submitting appropriate information to the dean.
- Represent the college by active participation in related organizations, networks and cooperative groups as assigned by the Dean of STEM.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Dean of STEM.
Requirements:
- A minimum of an A.S. Degree in Energy Systems Technology, HVACR, or related field required for an instructor position.
- A minimum of a B.S. Degree in Energy Systems Technology, HVACR, or related field required for assistant professor.
- Proven experience in HVACR, with a strong understanding of both theoretical concepts and practical applications.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in: (1) HVAC electrical wiring for burners and controls, (2) pipe processing skills such as brazing, soldering, cutting, (3) taking measurement, (4) perform complete combustion test, and (5) carry out preventive maintenance on oil and gas burners.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of and experience with Building Automation Technology.
- College teaching experience (ideally at a community college).
- Experience with curriculum development and instructional design.
- Familiarity with online teaching platforms and tools.

Additional Information:
Salary: $57,289-$71,085 annually, salary commensurate on experience and according to
Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
