POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Special Education life-skills teacher is responsible for implementing IEPs for students with intellectual and other disabilities in grades 6-8. This can include the direct instruction of functional academics and transitional skills. This role requires consultation with teachers and support staff in the building as well as a variety of outside agencies. The needs of these students require a functional curriculum focused on the acquisition of daily living and vocational skills leading to a successful transition to adult life within the community. The Special Education teacher works to maintain compliance with all procedures and regulations under IDEA.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelors Degree in Education and/or Special Education
- Massachusetts Teaching Licensure
- SEI Endorsement
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
- Masters Degree in Education and/or Special Education
- 3 or more years of high school teaching experience
- Dual Licensure in Content Area
- Experience working in an urban public schools setting
- Foreign Language Proficiency
GENERAL DUTIES:
- Create a safe and respectful learning environment with clear and consistent schedules and routines.
- Provide instruction in practical/functional academics effective communication community involvement and leisure & recreational activities.
- Develop and submit Alternative MCAS portfolios.
- Collaboration with the high school life skills staff to ensure alignment and positive transitions for students
- Collaboration with outside agencies to provide students with robust experiences that build their skills across all areas
- Collaboration with general education teachers other special education teachers and specialists.
- Create a system for motivating students to perform at their potential use of positive reinforcement.
- Collaborate with ancillary service providers (i.e. SLP OT PT BCBA)
- Implement IEP accommodations collect data on IEP goals and report on progress in all areas including academics behavior and social skills as required by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for students receiving Special Education services.
- Follow mandated timelines of IEP completion.
- Participate in Team meetings report out on student progress in parent friendly language and propose new programming accommodations as needed.
- Evaluate students as necessary according to their IEP timeline.
- Two-way culturally responsive ongoing communication with parents.
- Contribute to school-wide initiatives and events which may be assigned by the Principal and Assistant Principal.
Salary:
Salary for this position will be based on the Everett Teachers Association Collective Bargaining Agreement. SY 25-26 - Pay Range - $63280-$121994.
