Substance Abuse Counselor Job Details

• Job Title: Locum Tenens Substance Abuse Counselor
• Employment Type: Locum tenens (travel contract)
• Healthcare Setting: Inpatient Transitional Support Services (male-only environment)
• Location: Tewksbury, MA 01876 – Greater Boston area
• Shift: 8-hour night shifts, Friday–Tuesday, 10:30pm–7:00am
• Hours per Week: 40
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks (10/6/2025 – 1/3/2026)
• Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $1050–$1070
• Certifications: BLS required

Qualifications for Substance Abuse Counselor Jobs

• High school diploma or GED required
• Minimum 1 year experience in substance abuse counseling or working with substance use populations preferred
• Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License in good standing preferred
• Must be separated from any BILH affiliated facilities for at least 6 months prior to consideration
• BLS certification required
• Recovery Specialist certification required

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor client activities to ensure safety and structure within the program milieu
• Conduct 30-minute client well-being checks and supervise clients and unit
• Perform telephone admission screenings and other admissions duties
• Search client belongings on admission and discharge, or as directed by supervisor
• Complete all necessary checklists, shift documentation, and record keeping in accordance with agency policies
• Provide individual case management and group treatment services to assist clients in accessing step-down levels of care
