Clinical Social Worker (C)

Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children (PRHC) operated by the Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking an experienced, compassionate and licensed Clinical Social Worker to coordinate, monitor, develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans for a diverse child/adolescent patient population.


The Clinical Social Worker reviews treatment outcomes and provides communication with state and local agencies to ensure program implementation. The incumbent will also supervise interns and assess competency levels of patients while providing patient and family therapy.


The schedule will be 40 hours, M-F, 8:00-4:30.


Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive)

  • Assesses competency levels of pediatric patients (18-22 years old) to determine need for guardianship.
  • Performs pre-admission evaluation and assessment of patient appropriateness for admission, making recommendations to the Admission Committee.
  • Meets with family of each new patient, obtains a complete psycho-social history which is placed in the patient’s medical record.
  • Monitors and evaluates the progress of patients receiving services through on-site visits; Interacts with service providers to determine if placements are appropriate to the patients’ needs.
  • Conducts group therapy or individual counseling with patients and families to assist in developing coping mechanisms regarding physical disabilities and relationship issues.
  • Develops, implements, and modifies appropriate long- and short-term treatment/intervention programs for school-aged, adolescent, and young adult populations with physical disabilities.
  • Liaises with various public and private agencies, organizations, and officials in order to exchange information and improve services and placement opportunities for patients.
  • Supervises case worker experiences of clinical social worker (master’s level) intern and evaluate progress at end of clinical internship.
  • Provides documentation in medical records and social services records of pre-evaluation goals of admission, discharge planning, home visits and psycho-social history as required by DPH and JCAHO.
  • Serves as the interdisciplinary teams’ liaison to designated family member/surrogate decision maker to maintain easy and open communication.
  • Coordinates and implements social skills psychol-educational programming groups for young adult hospital patients preparing to transition to the community.
  • Assist patients and families in discharge planning for patient to ensure smooth transition in the community upon discharge.


Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of principles and methods of social casework, group work and community organizations.
  • Familiarity with the theories, principles and practices of psychotherapy, including counseling and interview techniques.
  • Ability to make decisions, act quickly and maintain a calm manner in a stressful and/or emergency situations.
  • Skilled in the capacity to exercise professional judgement in “at risk” situations (i.e.. child abuse, suicidal tendencies)
  • Competence in exercising discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Capacity to interact with individuals who are under physical and/or emotional stress and stressful situations.





Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with youth and young adults with physical disabilities.
  • Clinical competencies in the delivery of services to youth and families.
  • Knowledge of psychosocial assessments and treatment planning.
  • Knowledge and skills in examining cultural factors at work with individuals and families
  • Familiarity with treatment/intervention programs for school-aged, adolescent, and young adult populations with physical disabilities.
  • Highly organized and able to complete multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • An appreciation of the importance of a multidisciplinary team, and what patient care departments bring to the patient care endeavor, and the strength of that partnership.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Outlook, Teams and Word.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:


REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE:


At least two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience as a clinical social worker after earning a Master's degree in social work.


SUBSTITUTIONS:



  • A Doctorate in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, counseling education, or human services may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of two years of education for one year of experience.

  • One year of education equals 30 semester hours. Education toward a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:


A Master's or higher degree in social work is required.


LICENSES:



  • Licensure as a Licensed Certified Social Worker or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Social Work is required.

  • Based on assignment, travel may be required. Those employees who elect to use a motor vehicle for travel must have a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license or the equivalent from another state.

Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
