Part-Time Childcare Provider

Childcare staff do not teach religious education and do not need to have a religious affiliation. Their role is providing a safe and engaging playspace. A background in early childhood education is preferred (including experience in teaching, related specialists, babysitting or parenting).

POSITION PURPOSE: Provide safe, welcoming, fun, and developmentally appropriate care for infants and toddlers (0 to age 5) during Sunday morning services and occasional care for other ages up to age 13 during special events or meetings right after the service.

REPORTS TO: Director of Spiritual Exploration (DSE)

HOURS, COMPENSATION, BENEFITS:

● This position requires at least 2 days per month for 2 hours a week on Sunday morning (9:45am-11:45am) from January, 2026 through June, 2026. If possible with your schedule, additional hours would be available when childcare is needed to support a church event or meeting. There is potential for the contract to be renewed for the following year from September through June.

● This position is not eligible for benefits other than some paid time off depending on the number of hours worked.

● Pay is determined on a yearly basis by the Board of Trustees. For the ‘25-'26 year, the rate is $22.58/hr.

DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job. However, these statements are not exhaustive and cannot anticipate all possible duties and requirements which may arise.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Infant/Toddler Care and Occasional Childcare up to age 13.

● Provide care for infants and toddlers in the church childcare room during Sunday morning services.

● Take attendance and check-in with caregivers during drop off and pick up. Consult with parents regarding the child’s health history, allergies, and any other concerns regarding the child’s wellbeing while in childcare.

● With regard to safety and discipline, caregivers will:

○ Use positive language to direct or redirect children.

○ Refrain from physical discipline or punishment.

○ Maintain a space that is physically and emotionally safe for all children and caregivers.

○ Contact parent/caregiver if children need a clean diaper or need assistance in the bathroom.

○ Communicate concerns, if any, to parents upon pick-up.

○ Report concerns, problems, accidents, or suggestions to the Director of Spiritual Exploration in a timely fashion.

○ Pick-up toys and clean nursery space prior to departing; report any concerns to the Director.

○ Conduct classroom inventory checks and inform DSE when supplies/equipment are needed or are in disrepair.

● Provide supervision and care for children of various ages during church activities.

● Ensure children have appropriate and safe toys and activities

○ Facilitate and participate in age-appropriate activities with the children, such as games, reading and storytelling, songs or simple crafts.

● Collaborate with church staff and volunteers in designing and implementing childcare and activities

● Get to know each child’s interests and set up the environment to support their interests.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

● Experience caring for and leading activities with infants, toddlers, and children

Skills:

● Physical strength and agility to provide care for children

● Understanding of child development and age-appropriate activities

● Knowledge of basics of child safety and welfare

● Well organized and reliable

● Ability to work effectively with other staff and volunteers

● Tactful and mature with a good sense of humor

Other Requirements:

● Must be at least 18 years old

● This position requires the ability and willingness to maintain a regular work schedule and notify your supervisor in a timely manner if unable to work as scheduled.

● This position requires work on Sunday and occasional work at other times by arrangement.

● The successful candidate is required to have a criminal record background check (CORI).

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $22.58 per hour

Expected hours: 2 – 4 per week
