Mental Performance Coach

Boston Legacy FC
Boston, MA
About Boston Legacy FC

Boston Legacy FC (the “Club”) is Boston’s new professional women’s soccer team, set to begin play in the National Women’s Soccer League in 2026. We are dedicated to building a championship-caliber organization on and off the pitch. We are passionate about advancing women’s sports, investing in our local community, and redefining the future of professional soccer. As a startup club with a big vision, we’re building from the ground up—and looking for entrepreneurial team members who want to be part of something extraordinary.

The Role

Boston Legacy FC is seeking an inspiring and dedicated Mental Performance Coach to help our players and staff unlock their full potential—mentally, emotionally, and competitively. This role is not just about supporting performance under pressure; it’s about shaping a culture of resilience, confidence, and connection that elevates the entire club. The Mental Performance Coach is a full-time member of the High Performance Department, reporting directly to the Director of High Performance.

Fully embedded within the team environment, the Mental Performance Coach will be present at trainings, matches, and during travel to observe, support, and guide both players and staff. Through a blend of one-on-one coaching, small group sessions, and full-team workshops, the coach will introduce tools and strategies that build mental toughness, enhance focus, strengthen communication, and prepare athletes to thrive in high-stakes moments.

Beyond working with players, this role will be a trusted resource to coaches and the wider high-performance staff. Together, we aim to create a unified, collaborative environment where each area of expertise complements the other. By promoting healthy work practices, fostering staff cohesion, and encouraging constructive challenge, the Mental Performance Coach will help ensure that our collective efforts have the greatest positive impact on our athletes—both on the field and in life.

At Boston Legacy FC, we believe peak performance comes when individuals feel connected, supported, and empowered. The Mental Performance Coach will be at the heart of making that vision a reality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized coaching, small group sessions, and team-wide workshops that strengthen mental resilience, confidence, and focus under pressure.
  • Maintain a consistent presence at trainings, matches, and travel to build trust, observe dynamics, and deliver timely, actionable insights.
  • Design and facilitate strategies that improve communication, build strong relationships, and align athletes around shared goals.
  • Equip players with practical mental skills—such as visualization, stress management, and composure techniques—that prepare them for high-stakes competition.
  • Work closely with coaches, athletic trainers, and performance staff to ensure a unified approach to athlete development and well-being.
  • Encourage healthy, constructive dialogue among staff that balances integration with the ability to challenge one another in a positive, growth-oriented way.
  • Advocate for healthy work practices and support both players and staff in managing the mental and emotional demands of a professional sports environment.
  • Stay informed on the latest research and best practices in sport psychology and mental performance, adapting strategies to meet the evolving needs of the team.
  • Provide tailored mental performance strategies during rehabilitation, helping athletes stay motivated, manage setbacks, and confidently transition back into full training and competition.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sport Psychology, Neuroscience, or related field.
  • Certification in mental performance (e.g., Certified Mental Performance Consultant – CMPC).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working with elite athletes either individually or in a team sport setting.
  • Experience with individual coaching and group facilitation.
  • Ability to travel and work nontraditional hours aligned with team schedules.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed Mental Health Provider or advanced degree in a related field.
  • Master’s or Doctorate in Sport Psychology or Clinical Psychology.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or other relevant languages).
