What you will do

Thermal limits are the hidden bottleneck holding back the world's most advanced technologies—AI infrastructure, semiconductor equipment, power electronics, and mission-critical defense systems. At Johnson Controls, we don't work around those limits—we eliminate them.

Powered by our breakthrough Stack Forging™ process, we engineer high-performance thermal components and integrated cooling loop solutions designed for direct deployment into AI, HPC, and other demanding environments. The result: a best-in-class thermal management platform built for the systems that push performance to the edge—and beyond.

Join the movement as a Builder on the Stack Forging Thermal Solutions team at Johnson Controls as a Software Manager, Advanced Manufacturing in Burlington, MA.

In this role, you'll be at the center of turning breakthrough thermal designs into reality. You'll lead the development and evolution of JCI's proprietary slicer and controls software—the critical bridge between digital engineering and physical production. This platform powers our Stack Forging process, enabling the creation of high-performance thermal components used in the world's most demanding applications.

This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of software, advanced manufacturing, and innovation. You'll collaborate across UX, design workflows, controls systems, and mathematical modeling to drive rapid digital-to-physical iteration and scale cutting-edge technology into production.

If you've built your career navigating the tension between moving fast and managing risk, and you know how to translate engineering execution into meaningful business impact, this could be your next opportunity! Grounded in software development best practices, you bring clarity and focus—prioritizing what matters most, confidently stopping what doesn't, and guiding your team through change with transparency.

This position requires an onsite presence at our Burlington, MA, location. Candidates must be commuting distance to the facility, or able to relocate. Only US citizens and/or Permanent Residents of the US will be considered, as sponsorship is not available for this position.

How you will do it

  • Technical leadership: Drive the overall architectural vision for Alloy's proprietary slicer and controls software, focusing primarily on software product design and strategy, with a strategic balance between hands-on technical contribution and people management.

  • Agile development process and rituals: Optimize the agile development process and rituals to ensure efficient delivery of high-quality software features.

  • Manage team interfaces: Serve as the primary facilitator and technical partner, collaborating effectively across the organization with the process, machines, production, and thermal design teams to align software development with system-wide goals.

  • Maintain best practices: Establish and enforce standards across the entire software development lifecycle, including code quality, documentation, testing, and deployment workflows.

  • Grow the team: Recruit, mentor, and manage a high-performing software team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and psychological safety.

  • Strong proficiency in C++, Python, or TypeScript

  • Experience with software tied to physical systems (e.g., machine control, simulation, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing workflows)

  • Proven ability to drive architecture, design, and cross-functional collaboration

  • Familiarity with modern development practices (Agile, CI/CD, testing)

Preferred

  • Experience in advanced manufacturing, 3D printing, CAD/CAM, or simulation

  • Exposure to controls systems, machine interfaces, or industrial environments

  • Strong foundation in algorithms or computational problem-solving

  • Experience working closely with product, UX, or research teams
