The Oblate Service Corporation is seeking applicants for an LPN-CHARGE NURSE position at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence. Many of the residents are independent or semi-independent. The IHM Residence is inspired by the compassion and love of Jesus Christ ministering among the sick and needy. The staff focuses on one priority: providing the absolute best for faith-filled, personal, professional, and holistic care for every resident.
POSITION: LPN-CHARGE NURSE
POSITION STATUS: Part-time, Non-Exempt
SUMMARY: Charge nurse is any Licensed Practical Nurse currently licensed with the Massachusetts Nursing Board of Registration who will provide nursing care to Oblate residents. Strive for excellence by having the willingness to exceed expectations in the effective and efficient delivery of patient care. Work within the scope of practice as determined by licensure. Has the ability to function as a team leader. Assume responsibility for meeting all physical and emotional demands of patient care and all other nursing care duties and assigned tasks. Supervise and evaluate the work of the assistants on his/her shift. Give education and counsel to the assistants as needed. Render first aid, treatment and advice to community residents as clinical symptoms are presented.
Accept the role as first responder to any emergency in the facility. Use critical thinking to determine if a staff member/resident needs to be transferred to a hospital. And have complete understanding of the transferring protocol. Understand and enforce the state mandate for Comfort Care/Do Not Resuscitate
Assume responsibility for the administration of medications and treatments to all Residents per physician order. Be able to update and print all medication/treatment sheets. Assume responsibility to be knowledgeable of current patients' conditions and medical issues, as well as all other information pertinent to managing their care.
Educates staff of new procedures and protocols. Establish a therapeutic relationship with patients, co-workers, and superiors. Demonstrate skill in time management by organizing patient assignments, prioritizing patients' needs, and delegating tasks.
Adapt to unexpected changes in workload or patient conditions. Monitor patients for desired effectiveness and side effects of medications and treatments.
Complete the admission and discharge process. Properly receive, document, store and account for all controlled medications following facility procedures and state regulations. Adheres with the plan of care, together with the patient and coworkers, to promote an optimal level of independent functioning, by administering prescribed medications and treatments and to offer counseling and patient teaching when needed.
Utilizes clinical assessment skills and nursing judgment to recognize and report any signs and symptoms indicating a change in the patient's condition. This includes notifying the physician and receiving, transcribing and carrying out any new physician orders. Works well with outside agencies to maintain continuity of care for all residents. Making and documenting good clinical assessments on patients who have had a change in condition or an incident. Communicate with the nurse's assistant any change in patient condition and add to their assignment all responsibilities reflective of that change. Clarify any unclear physician order. Communicates a complete and accurate clinical picture of the patients to the assistants working with him/her as well as to coworkers on the next shift. Acknowledges and reinforces strengths of peers, respects others and is tolerant of diverse opinions. Conforms to policy standards of dress code. Report any concerns directly to the Nursing Supervisor.
WORK HOURS: 11-7 shift
EDUCATION/SKILLS: Licensed Practical Nurse with the MA Nursing Board of Registration, required. Associates or Bachelor in Nursing, preferred.
Minimum, one year of supervisory experience, required. Two or more years, preferred. CPR qualifications required. Excellent leadership, interpersonal and professional communication skills required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Knowledge of team management required. Outstanding organizational and stress management skills required. Willingness to keep abreast of changing standards in nursing administration, required. A personable and compassionate personality required.
