Our client, a family owned & reputable Home Care agency, with multiple offices in Massachusetts, is seeking compassionate, competent & dependable Homemakers to support their continued growth.

PRN, Part Time, & Full Time opportunities available immediately.

Position Summary:

Homemakers (HM) services are provided to clients who require physical assistance and verbal queuing with homemaking tasks. The goal of services is to maintain a client's optimal level of functioning while maintaining dignity and independence. Services include client assistance with shopping, menu planning, laundry, general household tasks such as meal preparation and general household care when the client is temporarily, or permanently, unable to perform such tasks for him/her self or others in the home. The Aging Services Access Point Registered Nurse (ASAP RN) will assess the client's needs, the type of and amount of care assistance needed, the client's environment and support system in determining the appropriateness for services. The ASAP RN collaborates with the RN to ensure an individualized, comprehensive and effective plan for each client. The RN supervises and orients the HM to the service plan and the client. In-home Nurse Supervision is conducted not less than once each quarter. Licensed Practical Nurses may supervise and orient the HM as allowed by the Elder Affair's Provider Agreement.

Education, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of an approved 40- hour HM training program in accordance with Federal Regulations. A current, valid certificate must be presented upon hire.
  • A Home Health Aide, certified in another state or territory of the United States, may be deemed to have completed a training program as required by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts provided the Home Health Care Agency has sufficient documentation in accordance with the ASAP's provider agreement.
  • Current CPR Certification preferred.
  • Exhibits maturity, flexibility and ability to plan and organize activities.
  • A current TB test is required upon hire and yearly thereafter, if warranted.
  • Completed 37 hours of training related to the responsibilities of a HM and the Mass Council's curriculum. Other courses may be used that contain the same subject matter and number of hours per subject.
  • Must have a current, valid Massachusetts driver's license and reliable transportation with current auto/vehicle insurance.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • Must be competent in the skills necessary to perform the job functions.

Work Environment:

Field work in client homes. Minimal office work is required.

  • Work Characteristics:
  • Visual, hearing ability sufficient to comprehend the English language.
  • Ability to manage effective communication with a variety of personalities.
  • Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients and families.
  • Work is performed ethically with considerable independence in accordance within policies, procedures, federal and state standards and practices while observing client privacy and confidentiality.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk, sit, stand, kneel and climb stairs.
  • Ability to bend, reach and stretch when needed.
  • Ability to drive to complete work assignments.
  • May require heavy lifting, extensive bending and standing.
  • Visual, hearing ability sufficient to comprehend, written/ verbal communication.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential functions of the HM include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Work cooperatively with the family member, the agency supervisor and any other individuals involved with the client.
  • The HM does not act on advice from neighbors or distant relatives.
  • The work of the HM is discussed only with those authorized persons responsible for the well-being of the client.
  • The HM is expected to follow instructions, be conscientious and take pride in his/her work.
  • The HM informs the Supervisor of unusual incidents or events, or of a significant change in the client's condition.
  • Assistance with: shopping, menu planning, laundry and light housekeeping including but not limited to vacuuming, dusting, dry mopping, dish washing, cleaning the kitchen and bathroom.
  • Abide by all Infection Control policies, procedures and practices.
  • Heavy duty gloves may be re-used only if washed with soap and water/hand disinfectant before and after each use and kept separately for each individual client in a labeled plastic bag. Keep the bag on top of the client's refrigerator, otherwise, use disposable gloves for each client at every visit. Perform less contaminated duties first, example, wash dishes before cleaning the bathroom.
  • Light household management and cleaning.
  • Store loose articles.
  • Sweeping.
  • Changing bed linens frequently.
  • Wet mop floors (with mop only, not on hands & knees).
  • Store equipment properly.
  • Store food properly, all surfaces should be kept free of food particles.
  • Wash tile and fixtures with disinfectant.
  • Laundry (wash, iron & mend), use laundromat when necessary.
  • Clean sink, shower tub & toilet weekly.
  • Under NO circumstance are clients allowed in a HM's car.
  • Perform normal household services essential to health care at home, including shopping, meal preparation, laundry and housekeeping duties.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and healthy environment.
  • Record activities performed for the client on the HM activity sheet.
  • Must attend and complete in-service education programs as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, or requested, by your supervisor.
