Role Description
We're seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team and play a crucial role in designing, prototyping and building components for our battery cell design! You'll contribute to the design, prototyping, and validation of first-of-a-kind features of our battery electrodes. As a problem solver, you'll creatively tackle mechanical design challenges as we release components for high volume manufacturing and in-house automated assembly. You'll work with the rest of the electrode and cell design team to define verification plans, and craft test vehicles and experiments to verify and validate designs. Comfortable working in a prototype shop environment, your role will involve hands-on fabrication and assembly of prototypes, test fixtures and vehicles. Collecting data, drawing conclusions, and reporting out reliability, performance, and mechanical conclusions will also be a key part of this role. If this sounds like the perfect opportunity for you, apply now!
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of scaling our multi-day energy storage system at Form and contributing to a sustainable future.
What you'll do:
Design and prototyping of mechanical components integral to the battery cell, electrodes and electrode stack assembly
Hands-on design, fabrication and integration of test vehicles, working with rapid prototyping and machine shop tools
Support the installation and integration of test articles into Form’s test equipment, and maintain or troubleshoot these during testing
Develop functional requirements and validation plans in close collaboration with other members of the Cell, Systems, and Electrode Engineering teams
Release designs consistent with company and team best practices (drawings, tolerance analysis, etc)
Demonstrate design functionality through component- or system-level testing, and reporting out conclusions from this testing
What you'll bring:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with co-op, internship, or some industry experience
Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD), specifically SolidWorks modeling and drafting
Experience with a variety of prototyping techniques and working in a machine shop environment
Experience with maintaining and troubleshooting test equipment and/or operational mechanical prototypes
Familiarity with product verification & validation testing
Experience with the design and verification of gas or liquid seals is a plus
Experience working with batteries, energy storage, fuel cells, or electrolyzers is a plus
