We are seeking an experienced construction ESTIMATOR to become an integral part of our HVAC and PLUMBING division at Corporate Mechanical of New England! This personwill be responsible for evaluating bid specifications and drawings to determine that all requirements are met and construction bids are submitted successfully. The ESTIMATOR must aggressively follow up with subcontractors, as well as internal management, to ensure that budgets are accurate and appropriate and bids are successful. This position is located in Woburn, Massachusetts.
Essential Duties:
- Prepare and maintain status-of-plan reproduction
- Solicit and maintain communication with subcontractors and vendors
- Prepare subcontractor bid packages
- Transmit addenda and other bid information to subcontractors
- Ensure proper coverage from subcontractors on bid day
- Contact supply houses to obtain additional subcontractor bids
- Show creativity and resourcefulness to gain better pricing from subcontractors
- Submit 100% of bids and budgets by the bid deadline no exceptions
- Enter all relevant information into Quickpen and Timberline
- Review bid requirements thoroughly and asks follow-up question on every bid
- Understand the scope for specific trades assigned
- Develop request for info (RFIs)/clarifications to ensure adequate subcontractor coverage
- Perform a comprehensive "bid day" analysis and scope of specific assigned trades
- Understand how to fit subcontractors into the size/scope of project
- Create "bid lists" that correlate to the scope of the project
- Minimize exclusions by doing our homework
- Include "value-engineering" ideas on every bid
- Consistently follow up on submitted bids/budgets with architect/construction manager to close business
- Turn over awarded bid documents and subcontractor information to project manager (PM) within 48 hours of notification
- Review drawings with PM team and highlight areas of concern
- Review job cost with PM team and highlight any subs/material vendors that still need to be awarded
- Complete project kick-off form to ensure compliance
- Thoroughly check requirements to buy the proper scope
- Award subcontractors in a timely manner to ensure release of materials
- Release materials for record only when possible
- Ensure that subcontractors are aware of (and committed to) the project schedule
- Provide subcontractors with as much information as possible (PM, foreman, permit status, etc.)
- Seek and qualify new subcontractors
Qualifications:
- Strong ability to solve problems with innovative resolutions in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team
- Demonstrated ability to constantly maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communications skills to effectively communicate with employees, customers, vendors, and subcontractors
Minimum Requirements:
- Seven plus years experience in construction estimating/project management
- Bachelors degree in construction management or related field
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience in Timberline project financial and Bid Tracer software strongly preferred
